This presentation is based on IEEE in context of professional ethics. this presentation will surly help the readers to understand basics introduction of IEEE, and at last it will define the code of ethics of IEEE.
3. BACKGROUND & HISTORY
1884: The American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) is
founded.
Radio, a new electrical technology, arose in the first decade
of the twentieth century.
Formation of the IRE, 1912.
On January 1, 1963, the IEEE was born with 150,000
members, 140,000 of whom were in the United States.
4. What is IEEE?
IEEE is the world’s largest professional association for
engineering dedicated to advancing technological innovation
and excellence for the benefit of humanity.
It is designed to serve professionals involved in all aspects of
the electrical, electronic and computing fields and related
areas of science and technology that underlie modern
civilization.
It has the most members of any technical professional
organization in the world, with more than 400,000 members
in around 160 countries.
5. What is IEEE?
It is a non profit organization.
It was formed in 1963 by the merger of the Institute of Radio
Engineers (IRE, founded 1912) and the American Institute of
Electrical Engineers (AIEE, founded 1884).

6. IEEE Consists of:
More than 400,000 members in more than 160 countries
333 sections in 10 geographic regions worldwide
Ex: Spain section and Russia northwest section
Nearly 2,173 branches (chapters) in 80 countries
Ex: student branch of the UNED
38 societies and 7 technical councils representing the wide
range of technical interests
Ex: IEEE education society, IEEE computer society and IEEE biometric
council
7. IEEE Consists of:
404 affinity groups (non-technical sub-units of one or more
Sections or a Council)
Ex: Woman in Engineering
A board of directors which is comprised of the 3 IEEE
presidents, the vice presidents and presidents of the 6 major
boards, the 10 region directors, the 10 division directors, and
the directors emeritus
8. IEEE Member and Geographic Activities
(MGA)
Shall be responsible to the IEEE Board of Directors
IEEE is the world’s largest professional association for
engineering dedicated to advancing technological innovation
and excellence for the benefit of humanity.
Ensure quality member opportunities for continuous
engagement.
Increase membership & member engagement.
9. IEEE Member and Geographic Activities
(MGA)
Improve relationships with and between members.
Increase the collaboration and cooperation between
geographic units.
Strengthen the relevancy of IEEE membership to industry.

16. Why Publishing with IEEE?
IEEE is by far the most-cited publisher in new patents,
according to recent studies by 1790 Analytics LLC. IEEE
journals and conference proceedings received more than
96,000 patent citations - more than 4 times the number of
citations of any other publisher.
IEEE produces 30% of the world's literature in the electrical
and electronics engineering and computer science fields,
publishing well over 100 peer-reviewed journals.
17. IEEE Xplore Digital Library
The IEEE Xplore Digital Library provides access to over 3.07
million documents including research articles, standards,
transactions and conference publications.
More than 7 million downloads each month
More than 1,000 conference proceedings titles are published
each year
140 transactions, journals and magazines published annually

18. IEEE-Wiley eBooks Library
IEEE and John Wiley & Sons, Inc., have partnered to offer
you online access to more than 400 eBooks via the IEEE
Xplore® digital library.
Approximately 40 new titles introduced each year
The IEEE-Wiley eBooks Library focuses on the content areas
that lead today’s cutting-edge technologies and help set the
standards for future advancements.
19. IEEE Spectrum Magazine
The official IEEE magazine.
Has a circulation of over 380,000 engineers worldwide,
making it one of the leading science and engineering
magazines.
Covers a wide variety of technical issues and advances in
computers, communications and electronics.
Visit the IEEE Spectrum Website http://spectrum.ieee.org/ .
20. IEEE STANDARDS ASSOCIATION
World’s largest professional organization committed to the
advancement of technological innovation and excellence to
benefit all of humanity.
This association has developed thousands of standards to
provide a basis for regulation and remove barriers for
development
21. EXAMPLES
IEEE Information Technology Standards
IEEE Power and Energy Standards
IEEE Telecommunications Standards
IEEE Nuclear Engineering Standards
IEEE Power Switchgear Standards
IEEE Power Transmission and Distribution Standards
IEEE Software Engineering Standards
22. IEEE MEMBERSHIP
The organization's wide scope of interests has attracted
people in other disciplines as well (e.g., computer science,
mechanical and civil engineering) as well as biologists,
physicists, and mathematicians.
An individual can join the IEEE as a student member,
professional member, or associate member.
The individual must fulfil certain academic or professional
criteria and abide to the code of ethics and bylaws of the
organization.
23. CATEGORIES OF IEEE MEMBERSHIP
