Shashank Singhal created an app called "That's My Spot" to help address issues with finding parking in New York City such as the 30% of traffic from drivers searching for spots, time and fuel wasted, and complex parking rules. The app collects parking data from NYC DOT regulations and real-time car movements to build a database of over 186,000 parking spots in NYC to help users search and find available spots. Developing the app's data pipeline and working with large datasets presented challenges around selecting the right tools, learning new skills, and dealing with messy real-world data.
