precedence over public relations, for Nature
cannot be fooled.”

4. Predicting Floods
C.
Managing floods better
benefits insurance
companies to plan better
A.
Flood cause crop damage
D.
Flood causes states huge
losses in infrastructure and
management.
B.
Flood cause livelihood and
damage to man and
property
5. How Data Analytics can help curb floods
Data Analytics uses information to try and predict future occurrences of events. Thus, using all the past
year monsoon datas, an estimate of monsoons can be made while accounting for known climate change
factors which will have multi-stage impact on various stakeholders.
Kerala floods in the past 2 years caused huge losses to state and people.
Floods in Maharashtra (partially) caused crop damage thus contributed to a part increase in onion price
inflation hike that led most of the people in a state of confusion because they didn’t know how to cook
without onions.
Thus, using past rainfall data, dam capacity calculations and flood rainfall data, the multi stage problems
of all parties can be helped to better the dam infrastructures and mainly to give an alarm to authorities
and people about another imminent danger.
Though the trouble of no proper sewage system and no appropriate large scale capacity for rainfall
harvesting can also contribute to help solve the flooding problem, if measures are taken for the same.

7. Data Analytics contribution in food waste
A.
Gathering data from total
farm production all across the
world by taking in total
amount of production in each
country across all food
produced. The calculations
are possible through crop
yield calculation.
B.
Gather total country’s food
needs, across states based on
caloric value required by the
total population and restrict
excess export of the food
products that could
potentially lead to a shortage
of them in the home country.
C.
Calculate using global poverty
and malnutrition indexes to
arrive at where food
shortages exist and divert
excess produce to those
nations.
The problem of food waste is not a problem of lacky production but a problem of distribution. The best tools are
with us to arrive at the precise estimates of production, requirement and data on who needs it where, the
problem is of food wasted, so countries and companies aren’t losing revenue per say since food wasted leads to
0 revenue, but does lead to huge costs to environment and loss of resource values that went into basically
producing waste.
8. CYBER BULLYING
1. 37% of young people between 12 and
17 have been bullied online.
2. 95% of teen in US alone are active on
various social media platforms
3. Girls are more likely to be victims as
compared to boys
4. Victims are at a greater risk of
developing behaviors of self-harm
and suicidal tendencies.
5. Only 1 in 10 teen victims will inform a
parent or trusted adult
6. 81% say they would be more likely to
intervene if they could do it
anonymously( most do not intervene)

9. Data Analytics for Cyber Bullying
01.
Actions against comments online are hard to
implement since the argument is that it’s against
free speech.
02.
Free speech as an argument should not be used as
a defence mechanism to let the bullying continue
while lives continue to be lost
03.
Data Analytics as a tool for the purpose of
stopping bullying hasn’t been used effectively.
04.
Derogatory languages and racist slurs need to
set off an alarm to the website operators, but the
context in which those terms are used is equally
important to be monitored.
05.
More vigilance can be paid to accounts
that have shown an increased use of hate
speech and suspension of accounts
should be made available.
06.
Content restriction isn’t a new thing,
Reddit famously uses a limit to how much
a person may post during a certain time
frame. With the ability of users to
downvote certain posts.
10. Cyber bullying
Cyber bullying is not an easy solution, the solutions given above too are not fool-proof either.
But, it is just as important to start the conversation about the potential ways to tackle the
issue. Most of ours lives we are actively connected, part of some social media platform or the
other, but the identity of the internet as a place for every kind of view is trouble and very tough
a water to navigate. Since everyone has a voice.
The thing that was developed as tool for good is being used for some real bad stuff too. Which
is of no surprise.
But, not doing anything is never the answer, through this complex structure that is the internet
we as innovative people can no doubt find a solution even if it means it takes a long time.
