Died: 20th July 1973. Texas, USA.
Robert Smithson known famously for his use of photography in relation to sculpture and
land art. He was one of the key artists in the emergence of the new art form, Land Art.
Robert Smithson studied painting and drawing at the Art Students League of New York,
USA in 1955 till 1956, and then briefly at the Brooklyn Museum School.
Famous sculpture piece: Spiral Jetty in April 1970.
Even after in death in 1973, he remained one of the most influential and original artists,
whose voice has had a major impact on artists of his generation and continues to do so
today.
One of his quotes “Artists themselves are not confined, but their output is”.

counterclockwise coil jutting from the shore of the lake.
