Richard Long
Born: Bristol, England 1945.
Richard Long is an English sculptor,
photographer and painter, who
were also closely associated with
the emergence of the new art form,
Land Art.
Richard Long studied at West of
England College, Bristol in 1962 till
1965 and St Martin’s School of Art,
London in 1966 till 1968.
Richard made his international reputation during the 1970s, with the sculptures he had
made that were a ‘result of epic walks’, which sometime lasted for days in remote parts of
the world.
He had great respect for nature and the formal structure of basic shapes, especially circles,
and he also ‘dialogue’ the relationship between the primal gesture of the handprint and
the formal elegance of its display.
