2. habitat.
The tree house dwelling units exemplify the
opportunities for enrichment that can occur
when human and non-human habitat occupy
the same space.
This studio served as a model for Portland
Metro’s Integrating Habitats design
competition. Located in Southwest Portland,
the project, a mixed-use development within
a functioning urban ecosystem, sought to
provide Iocal urban habitat opportunities for
both human AND non-human species as well
as contribute to a regional habitat matrix.
As part of an interdisciplinary team, our
response to the interface of architecture and
landscape ecology was a design that respected
a certain level of autonomy for human
and natural habitats to function while also
recognizing key opportunities for interaction.
Work from this project was selected for design
competion brief.
