1. Unified Theatre Show at Alvirne A Huge Success
On December 19th and 20th, Alvirne High School’s Unified Theatre group held its
first show, a holiday variety show with a heart-felt storyline running throughout it. The
show was held in Alvirne’s new theatre room, Theatre 3.1.1., and was a huge success with
both days being completely sold out; people evenhad to be turned away at the door.
The show, titled “Holiday Extravaganza,” consisted of nine scenes. Each scene
consisted of a different holiday song or two and lots of singing and dancing. Some of the
scenes which the audience seemedto enjoy the most included the songs “Jingle Bell Rock,”
“Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth,”
and “Let It Go.” The audience was invited to sing along to all of the songs, with the words
being shown on a projector screenat the back of the stage.
The songs and performances throughout the show were brought on by a story about
two boys who were fighting too much, rather than enjoying Christmas together. Through
the different songs and performances, the boys, along with the audience, were given the
message that everything is more enjoyable if you put aside disagreements and are able to
have fun together.
The show got rave reviews from anyone who came to see it. One audience member
commented, “It was a wonderful performance. I had a smile on my face for the entire
performance.” Another stated, “If you were not in the Christmas spirit prior to going into
this show, you walked out feeling like you wanted to dance and sing. It brought tears to my
eyes when you could see that the kids were so proud of what they were doing and how
happy they were to be in front of the audience.”
2. Lauren Denis, one of the teachers in charge of putting the whole show together, was
particularly pleased with the show, but was also thrilled about the experience as a whole.
“This experience was one that I will never forget,” she stated. “The rehearsal process was
my favorite part because this is where all the students started forming friendships. The
jokes, the high-fives, the laughs started there and are still going. As a teacher of theater,
that is what it is all about.”
Even though the Unified Theatre show this year has come and gone, there are still
many other projects taking place at Alvirne that can support Project Unify and Alvirne’s
W.A.T.S. Club. Currently, the unified basketball seasonis in full swing. There are no
remaining home games, but an away game will be played at Nashua South on Monday,
February 2nd at 3:15. Also, the Penguin Plunge, their most important fundraiser, will be
Saturday, January 31st. Alvirne’s page to make donations for this is
