Artificial Intelligence and the Labouré
workforce
Humans are smart to survive but need tools to make their job easier
Tools are used by humans to make life easy
Humans have built tools to help with farming and agriculture
Examples of farming equipment are diggers, hay knives, pitchforks,
and drag hoes.
Humans have also built machines to help reduce physical labor
 Mechanical muscles are stronger, reliable, and more tireless than
human
Examples are excavator, wheel burrow, hummer, screw, pulley, and
lever
Physical Laboure
 Automation is dumb robots blind to the world and their work
 The new kind of automation is Baxter and it has a vision
Baxter can learn what you want him to do by watching
Cost less than an average salary of a human worker
Baxter might be thought of as a general-purpose robot
General purpose computer can calculate change or assign a seat in a
pane…etc just by swapping its software
Baxter is the computer of the 1980s and bot the APEX
Baxter is slow however smart enough to take over a small skill job
Luddite Horses
The horse population peaked in 1915
Economics rule says better technology makes better jobs for horses
As mechanical muscles pushed horses out of the economy
Mechanical minds will do the same to humans
Not immediately, not everywhere but in large numbers soon enough
 It’s going to be a huge problem because we’re not prepared
Horses and no longer used but replaced by cars
Automobiles
Self perfect cars aren’t the future they are here and they work
They don’t need to be perfect but need to be better than us humans
Human drivers killed 40,000 people a year in the United States
 It’s easy to see them being better than humans because they already
are.
Autos-The solution to the transport problem from point A to B
Transportation industry in the US employs about 3 million people
Humans are about a third of their total cost
The things that shape and change me
White collar job is not a safe haven either
The incentive to automate their work is greater than a low skilled job
Automation engineers are skilled programmers whose entire job is to
replace yours with a software bot
Soft ware bots are both intangible and way faster and cheaper than
physical robots
Bot can figure out how to do a job to be done
Even with no knowledge to do bot can still learn
There are companies that keep bots to write anything
Professional Bots
Discovery in particular is not a human job in many law firms
Clever bots shift through millions of emails memos and accounts in
hours
Watson’s day job is to be the best doctor
To understand what people say and give back diagnosis
Human doctors by no means are perfect
Human doctors can only improve their own experiences
Doctor bots can learn from the experience of every doctor bot
Creative Bots
The brain is a complicated machine
Creativities may feel like magic but it isn’t
The brain is the most complicated machine in the whole universe
Artistic creativity isn’t what the majority of jobs depend on
There cant be such a thing as a poem or painting based on economy
People think that playing chess is a thing computers can’t do
There is a terrifying amount of working automation
