2. OUR
COMMITMENT
To voluntarily conduct a participant observation such
that we will describe, reflect, and show our thoughts
toward the Seventh-Adventist ritual, beliefs and
practices.

3. KNOWING WHO ARE THE
SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTISTS
The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a millennial Protestant
Christian denomination founded in the United States in the
1860s. The name Seventh-day Adventist comes from
compliance with the "Sabbath of the Bible" on Saturday, the
seventh day of the week. "Advent" means coming and refers
to their belief that Jesus Christ will soon return to this earth.
The Seventh-day Adventist differs from the general Trinity
Christian denomination only in four areas of faith. These are
the Sabbath, the doctrine of the Sanctuary of Heaven, the
status of Ellen White's writings, and her next arrival and
millennium doctrine. Adventists live a humble life in
accordance with strict ethical codes. They do not smoke, do
not drink alcohol, and recommend a vegetarian diet. Meat is
allowed, but only according to the Bible's commandments on
clean and dirty food. The work of missionaries is very
important to the Church and we believe that all Adventists
have a duty to share their faith with others.

4. THEIR BELIEFS AND
PRACTICES
Seventh-day Adventists share many of the basic beliefs of
Protestant Christianity, including acceptance of the authority
of the Bible, recognition of the existence of human sin and
the need for salvation, and belief in the atoning work of
Christ. Seventh-day Adventists share many of the basic

of Christ. They are officially Trinitarian, believing in the three
coeternal persons of the Godhead, but on several occasions
they have seriously debated this doctrine, and some
Adventist groups have rejected it. Seventh-day Adventism
emerged at a time when many Protestants were divided into
Calvinist and Arminian camps, the former emphasizing
predestination and the sovereignty of God, the latter human
choice and God’s election. The Adventists came to accept the
Arminian interpretation of Christ’s atonement. They argue
that his death was “provisionally and potentially for all men”
yet efficacious only for those who avail themselves of its
benefits.

5. THE
DIFFERENCE
The most major difference between Seventh-day
Adventists and other Christian churches is the day on
which they hold worship services. Sunday is the day of
fellowship for Catholics and other Christian faiths,
although SDA members prefer Saturdays. They believe
that this is the Sabbath day, or the day when God
rested after creating the world and all living things.
Moreover, Seventh-day Adventists do not go to church
on Christmas. It is simply another day of the week.
They don't awake from their slumber to have an early
church service as other denominations do. Unless
December 25 happens to be a Saturday, then the only
activity for Seventh-day Adventists is meeting with
friends and family for lunch.

6. POPULARITY
In Seventh-day Adventist, the statistics show us that
worldwide as of September 30, 2020--- There are 92,186
churches, 72,749 companies, and Church Memberships
of 21,760,076. In the Philippines, based on Philippine
Statistics Authority (PSA) in 2015, there are a total of
791,552 population engaged in Seventh day Adventist. It
appears that the Seventh-Day Adventist in the
Philippines to grow, this is not surprising when the
Philippines just celebrated the 110 years of Blessings.
We observed that despite the onslaught of the COVID-
19 virus, the Seventh-Day Adventists continue to cherish
and spread their beliefs and practices worldwide.

7. OBSERVATION
As we observed through watching their service on their Facebook page, we
observed that they started the celebration with a worship song sung by a
member followed by an opening prayer where the leader knelt on the lectern and
bow his head. After the opening prayer, they have the speaker who had made
opening remarks and inspirational messages to tell to the members of the church
and the viewers on their Facebook page. The celebration contains more
preaching and worship songs, where only the Speaker will read and preach. And
as we observed, there is no Holy Eucharist or the receiving of the body and blood
of Jesus Christ and because of the pandemic, they don’t perform the giving of
offerings. In the last part of their celebration, there is sign language for the deaf
so that even they can relate to the preaching.
For their people, they are civilized and disciplined in wearing attire and most of all
their people can sing very well.
