Acne – Eruption, Vulgaris – Common
Acne vulgaris are the common skin eruptions caused to blocked
(clogged) pores or hair follicles with debris or dead cells
Common among teenagers because skin changes occur during
puberty
Commonly seen on face, back, chest

Mild Acne ; White heads, black heads
Moderate Acne : Pustules
Severe Acne : Cysts and nodules

Keratin plus-
Dead keratinocytes + keratin
block the opening of the hair follicle
Sebum – Released by sebaceous glands
Bacteria - Propionibacterium (normal flora)
Pus - white head
Genetic and environmental factors
Skin products
6. TYPES
TYPE 1 (mild acne)
No scarring, a few small comedones
TYPE 2 ( Moderate Acne)
No scarring, large closed comedones (papules)
TYPE 3 (Moderately Severe)
Some scarring, papular and pustular
(comedones containing necrotic tissue)
TYPE 4 (Severe Acne)
Severe scarring and nodulocystic acne (has nodules and cysts)
7. TREATMENT
Type 1 – Topical Treatments – BENZOYL PEROXIDE, SALICYLIC ACID
Type 2- Antibiotics- doxycycline or Tetracycline + Spironolactone (Hormonal
regulation)
Type 3 and 4 – ISOTRETINOIN (vit A derivative)
Acne Scars – Tretinoin creams
Microabrasion
