The Public House Theatre in Chicago will host "Impact Statement" on January 11th, 2017, an event where survivors of sexual violence can share their stories through art and spoken word. Proceeds will benefit Planned Parenthood. Sexual assault devastates victims in many ways, yet most cases go unreported. This event aims to empower survivors and strengthen their voices. It will provide a supportive space for survivors to speak out against their attackers. A mental health professional will be available. The theatre is hosting this to support organizations facing challenges under the new administration. All genders and identities are invited to attend and participate.

Decemberr 14th
, 2016- SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE SPEAK OUT
AGAINST ABUSERS AT PLANNED PARENTHOOD FUNDRAISER AT THE
PUBLIC HOUSE THEATRE
We all have voices that need to be heard. Join The Public House Theatre for an
evening of courage, companionship and gravity as those who have been stifled break
their silence and speak out against their oppressors.
“Impact Statement” is a recurring event in which survivors of trauma and abuse
are invited to share their stories through art- visusal, verbal or otherwise. In this inaugural
event, the theme of the evening is Sexual Assualt. Proceeds from the event will be
donated to Planned Parenthood.
Few crimes can devastate a person as wholly and lastingly as sexual assault. The
violation of a person’s body may follow the victim through their life, in forms of PTSD,
injury, disease and pregnancy. One in four female children and one in six male children
will be sexually abused before the age of 18. Rape costs the US more than any other
crime, and most rapes go unreported and untreated. Most victims will never see justice.
“Impact Statement” is an opportunity to reclaim some power: to speak out against
our/their attackers. It’s a chance for survivors to speak their truth aloud in a supportive
and comfortable room (as opposed to a courtroom). A mental health professional will be
on hand for anyone who will find it helpful.
As part of their ongoing effort to support organizations that are coming under fire
with the incoming administration, The Public House Theatre is hosting this event to
strengthen victim’s voices. Though proceeds are being donated to Planned Parenthood,
the evening won’t be geared specifically to female victims. All genders and
identifications are invited and encouraged to attend and participate.
