1. Primary Optical Area-
Within this area the name of the film Features in a big bold font. The name of the main star within
the film, Liam Neeson. Before you even notice that it is actually Liam Neeson in the movie you see
his name along the top of the image. It’s effective because it is the information you require. You
must know it and it’s one of the first things you see.
Strong Fallow Area-
Because the writing is central the same applies with what I said about the Primary Optical Area. You
see Liam Neesons head also; you instantly know it’s him. He looks angry like he needs to sort
something out. He is going to attract a wide large audience when considering the other movies he
has features in and how good they were. It shows that the producer thought of star theory. Knowing
that Liam Neeson is a big star. And how successful the actor is within this particular genre. It would
be popular with him in it.
Weak Fallow Area-
You see Liam Neeson holding a gun, very significant for an Action Thriller genre type of film.
Considering this is meant to be the part where your eyes look at last, the gun is incredibly significant.
The Terminal Area-
In this section of the poster you see the release date for the movie. It is pretty essential to have this
featuring on a film poster. It also in the small print mentions people’s names who are also involved
like the director, producer and other actors or actresses featuring. These aren’t so important that is
why they’re in the small print. In this section it also involves a very apparent cross styles tombstone.
Obviously relating to the name of the movie.
Genre Codes & Conventions
Overall this poster does help define the film as being an Action Thriller. You can tell this through the
colours used. Everything is dark and dull, like it is throughout the film its self and the trailer. It
features a little bit of colour which is red. And both red and black suggest death and darkness. You
definitely get this impression from this poster. Also the poster features a Gun and a myste rious
looking black bag. Which are 2 cliché items for a film like this. You expect to see guns, fighting and
death within a film like this. Especially one which features Liam Neeson. You really do know what to
expect of the movie. Also the tomb stones within the background. There is one really vibrantly
displayed, on the right hand side of the poster in the terminal area. That is one what stood out to me
the most. Another thing is Liam Neeson’s coat. It is a mysterious long dark coat. This poster does
really define the film as being at the genre it is.
