Introducing Myself
Blog Post
FSU Office of Admissions
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome, fellow and future ‘Noles, to my blog! Relax, have a seat, make yourself
comfortable; I know there’s not a lot of furniture, but we can still make do  My
name is Sarah, by the way, I’m a sophomore here at FSU and thrilled to have the
opportunity to share with you all my experiences as a Florida State Seminole. Before
we begin this caravan of my college career together, let me give you a little
background on who I am and how my life as a ‘Nole came to fruition.
Unlike the majority of the FSU population, I am an out-of-state student, born and
raised in Chicago, IL. Naturally, many people I meet - and perhaps you all as well -
find me living 1000 miles away from my home pretty perplexing: “You’re from
Chicago? Why did you come to Florida State?” Well, come on, isn’t it obvious? It’s so
much warmer here! Ha, no, I’m kidding, of course. The lack of snow in Florida was
appealing, no doubt, but in all seriousness, I just wanted a change. In high school, I
always looked at college as the clichéd fresh start, a new beginning that I wanted to
take advantage of after spending 18 years in one place. The adventurous side of me
begged for new surroundings, and when I came to Tallahassee, I knew this is where
I wanted to spend the next four years of my life. Being far away is not always that
easy; I love my friends and family to death and miss them on a daily basis, but my
decision to attend school here has been more than worth it.
FSU has opened my eyes to opportunities I feel I could never have experienced had I
chosen another university, like working at FSU’s radio station, WVFS Tallahassee
(V89.7), where I currently work as a Sports reporter and a production team member.
Seriously, though, how cool is it that students can work on a radio station? It still
boggles my mind, and I’ve been doing it for almost 2 years! I dabble quite a bit in
media-related activities on campus as I’m preparing to apply for the College of
Communication in the spring. This is one area I hope I can provide a great deal of
insight on, the trials and tribulations of applying for your major. That’s right, boys
and girls, the application fun doesn’t end after senior year of high school (I know
you’re missing it already!). Many majors have “colleges” that have separate
requirements and standards to get into than just the university itself, and Florida
State’s College of Communication is one of them. I’ll explain further details of the
process in later blogs as I’ll inevitably share with you my efforts to secure a spot in
the college.
The blog fun has just begun, and I’m already rhyming… oh dear. Hopefully you all
will benefit in some way by reading this, maybe learn something new about FSU,
gain some confidence about going away to college, perhaps learn a new word (I have
an affinity for vocabulary, just a forewarning), or maybe just be entertained for 5
minutes. Either way, I’ll be happy you stopped by 
