Quran only to be followed
1. Quran and Prophet Mohammad (SAS)
are to be obeyed for islamic Unity
A Presentation by
Dr Sanjan Hazarika
Professor and Head, Physics Department
Jorhat Engineering College
Assam, India
2. The Quran repeatedly orders to follow and obey it and
follow prophet Mohammad(SAS)
• [004:080] He who obeys the Messenger (Muhammad [sal-Allâhu
'alayhi wa sallam]), has indeed obeyed Allâh, but he who turns
away, then We have not sent you (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi
wa sallam]) as a watcher over them.
• [004:081] They say: "We are obedient," but when they leave you
(Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]), a section of them
spends all night in planning other than what you say. But Allâh
records their nightly (plots). So turn aside from them (do not punish
them), and put your trust in Allâh. And Allâh is Ever All-Sufficient as
a Disposer of affairs.
• [004:082] Do they not then consider the Qur'ân carefully? Had it
been from other than Allâh, they would surely have found therein
many a contradiction.
3. • [003:031] Say: "If you love God then follow me
that God may love you and forgive your faults;
for God is forgiving and kind."
• [003:032] Say: "Obey God and His Messenger;"
and if they refuse (then remember) God does
not love disbelievers.
• [058:020] Those who oppose Allâh and His
Messenger (Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa
sallam]), they will be among the lowest (most
humiliated).
4. • It is obligatory for us as muslims to follow the
Quran and the prophet.
• One of the five pillars of Islam, the shahada “
La Ilaha Illa Allahu Muhammadur Rasullullah”
also mean that, it is the prophet
Muhammad(SAS) through whom Allah guides
people through his revelations. If anybody
among human being is to be obeyed, he is the
Prophet Mohammad(SAS)
5. • The prophet repeatedly asked to follow the
Quran and his Sunnah. Because the prophet did
not say anything from himself. Whatever he said
was from the Quran.
• Allah ordered him:
• Say (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa
sallam]): "I don't tell you that with me are the
treasures of Allâh, nor (that) I know the Unseen;
nor do I tell you that I am an angel. I but follow
what is revealed to me." Say: "Are the blind and
the one who sees equal? Will you not then take
thought?" [006:050]
6. Say (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]): "I am
not a new thing among the Messengers (of Allâh, i.e. I am
not the first Messenger) nor do I know what will be done
with me or with you. I only follow that which is revealed to
me, and I am but a plain warner. [046:009]
7. • The Prophet(SAS) in his prophetic
period(23 years) of his life received
revelations from Allah, to guide mankind
and establish peace among people. Which
he diid successfully.
• He always insisted that if we follow the
Quran and his sunna we shall never be
lead astray. In the sermon of his farewel
Hajj also he clearly mentioned this.
8. • For centuries we are following a tradition that the
Quran can not be understood. It is an uncreated
book.
• We should recite the Quran in Arabic, only then
we get the benefit of reciting the Quran( God’s
book)
• Rational thinking is totally abolished. Instead of
interpreting the objective of the Quran we are
mostly concentrating on the traditions.
• Sometimes through the behaviour of a section of
learned men it becomes almost apparent that
the traditions are more important than the
Quran.
9. • Let us take an example,
• The owner of a factory having a number employees
had to leave the factory for a few years. So he
prepared a set of instructions as guidance, which
the employees have to follow during his absence.
• After his departure the employees without trying to
understand and without obeying the instructions
started reciting the instructions morning and
evening by shaking the body right to left or forward
and backward. During this time the conditions
remained the same, no development, no change.
• When the owner returned after the few years the
employees demanded their reward for reciting the
instructions morning and evening. Can you imagine
the reaction of the owner?
10. Warn those who fear, through this (Qur'an), that they will
be gathered before their Lord, and they will have none to
protect or intercede for them apart from Him. They may
haply take heed for themselves. [006:051]
11. Will not Allah ask them about the Quran? Why they did not
try to understand and followed the guidance of Quran.
Instead of obeying It and following its guidance, why they
interpreted the ayas of the Quran for their own benefit.
Is the present unrest in the muslim world in the name of
religion, according to the guidance of Quran?
Is the oppression of women is according to the Quran?
Why are we keeping silent?
Why should some people decide whom to punish and
whom to kill. Are they following the right path? The path
prescribed by Allah through the Quran?
Let us see some ayas of the Quran what it say about such
actions
12. [007:034] And every nation has its appointed term; when their term
comes, neither can they delay it nor can they advance it an hour (or
a moment).
[015:004] And never did We destroy a township but there was a known
decree for it.
[015:005] No nation can advance its term, nor delay it.
[016:125] Invite (mankind, O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam])
to the way of your Lord (i.e. Islâm) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine
Revelation and the Qur'ân) and fair preaching, and argue with them
in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone
astray from His path, and He is the Best Knower of those who are
guided.
[016:126] And if you punish (your enemy, O you believers in the
Oneness of Allâh), then punish them with the like of that with which
you were afflicted. But if you endure patiently, verily, it is better for
As-Sâbirûn (the patient).
13. • [042:039] And those who, when an oppressive wrong is done to
them, take revenge.
•
• [042:040] The recompense for an evil is an evil like thereof; but
whoever forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is with Allâh.
Verily, He likes not the Zâlimûn (oppressors, polytheists, and wrong
doers).
•
• [042:041] And indeed whosoever takes revenge after he has
suffered wrong, for such there is no way (of blame) against them.
•
• [042:042] The way (of blame) is only against those who oppress
men and rebel in the earth without justification; for such there will be
a painful torment.
•
• [042:043] And verily, whosoever shows patience and forgives, that
would truly be from the things recommended by Allâh.
14. • If you have accepted Islam why don’t you
wait for His judgement. If you have really
submitted to God then why don’t you
follow his guidance.
• When what God intends to speak is quite
clear why do you pretend that you don’t
understand it. Why do you say that it can’t
be understood.
15. • Those who say the Quran can not be
understood, they indirectly mean that the
Prophet was a lier. He gave us a book(the
Quran) and asked us to follow it , but the book is
such that nobody understands it. It is repeatedly
mentioned in the Quran that it is book of
guidance for mankind, it is presented in such a
way that it becomes easy to understand.
• A few quotations are as follows: A single
quotation from the Quran does not express the
complete meaning. It was reveled over a period
of 20 years. Earlier verses were replaced by
better verses of revelations at a later time.
16. • [012:002] Verily, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'ân in order
that you may understand.
• 043:003] Verily, We have made it a Qur'ân in Arabic that you may
be able to understand (its meanings and its admonitions).
•
• [043:004] And verily, it (this Qur'ân) is in the Mother of the Book (i.e.
Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz) with Us, indeed exalted, full of wisdom.
•
• [012:003] We relate to you (Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa
sallam]) the best of stories through Our Revelations to you, of this
Qur'ân. And before this (i.e. before the coming of Divine Revelation
to you), you were among those who knew nothing about it (the
Qur'ân).
17. • [003:138] This (the Qur'ân) is a plain statement for mankind, a
guidance and instruction to those who are Al-Muttaqûn (the pious.
See V.2:2).
• [054:017] And We have indeed made the Qur'ân easy to understand
and remember; then is there anyone who will remember (or receive
admonition)?
• [012:002] Verily, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'ân in order
that you may understand.
• [041:002] A revelation from (Allâh) the Most Gracious, the Most
Merciful.
• [041:003] A Book whereof the Verses are explained in detail – a
Qur'ân in Arabic for a people who know.
18. • [020:113] And thus We have sent it down as a Qur'ân in
Arabic, and have explained therein in detail the
warnings, in order that they may fear Allâh, or that it may
cause them to have a lesson from it (or to have the
honour for believing and acting on its teachings).
• [039:027] And indeed We have put forth for men, in this
Qur'ân every kind of similitude in order that they may
remember.
• [039:028] An Arabic Qur'ân, without any crookedness
(therein) in order that they may avoid all evil which Allâh
has ordered them to avoid, fear Him and keep their duty
to Him.
19. [041:046] Whosoever does righteous good deed, it is for (the benefit of)
his own self; and whosoever does evil, it is against his own self. And
your Lord is not at all unjust to (His) slaves.
• [031:006] And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks
to mislead (men) from the path of Allâh without
knowledge, and takes it (the path of Allâh, or the Verses
of the Qur'ân) by way of mockery. For such there will be
a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire).
• [031:007] And when Our Verses (of the Qur'ân) are
recited to such a one, he turns away in pride, as if he
heard them not – as if there were deafness in his ear. So
announce to him a painful torment.
20. • [002.002] This is the Book (the Qur'ân),
whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to
those who are Al-Muttaqûn [the pious
believers of Islamic Monotheism who fear
Allâh much (abstain from all kinds of sins
and evil deeds which He has forbidden)
and love Allâh much (perform all kinds of
good deeds which He has ordained)].
21. • [007:002] (This is a) Book (the Qur'ân) sent down to you
(O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]), so let not
your breast be narrow therefrom, that you warn thereby;
and a reminder to the believers.
•
• [007:003] [Say (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa
sallam]) to these idolaters (pagan Arabs) of your folk:]
Follow what has been sent down to you from your Lord
(the Qur'ân and Prophet Muhammad's Sunnah), and
follow not any Auliyâ' (protectors and helpers who order
you to associate partners in worship with Allâh), besides
Him (Allâh). Little do you remember!
22. • [010:002] Is it a wonder for mankind that We
have sent Our Revelation to a man from among
themselves (i.e. Prophet Muhammad [sal-Allâhu
'alayhi wa sallam]) (saying): "Warn mankind (of
the coming torment in Hell), and give good news
to those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh
and in His Prophet Muhammad [sal-Allâhu
'alayhi wa sallam]) that they shall have with their
Lord the rewards of their good deeds?" (But) the
disbelievers say: "This is indeed an evident
sorcerer (i.e. Prophet Muhammad [sal-Allâhu
'alayhi wa sallam] and the Qur'ân)!
23. • [014:001] Alif-Lâm-Râ.
•
• [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur'ân, and
none but Allâh (Alone) knows their meanings.]
•
• (This is) a Book which We have revealed to you (O
Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]) in order that
you might lead mankind out of darkness (of disbelief and
polytheism) into light (of belief in the Oneness of Allâh
and Islâmic Monotheism) by their Lord's Leave to the
path of the All-Mighty, the Owner of all praise.
24. • [017:009] Verily, this Qur'ân guides to that
which is most just and right and gives glad
tidings to the believers (in the Oneness of
Allâh and His Messenger Muhammad [sal-
Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]), who work
deeds of righteousness, that they shall
have a great reward (Paradise).
25. • [020:002] We have not sent down the Qur'ân to
you (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa
sallam]) to cause you distress,
•
• [020:003] But only as a Reminder to those who
fear (Allâh).
•
• [020:004] A Revelation from Him (Allâh) Who
has created the earth and high heavens.
26. • [021:010] Indeed, We have sent down for
you (O mankind) a Book (the Qur'ân) in
which there is Dhikrukum, (your Reminder
or an honour for you, i.e. honour for the
one who follows the teaching of the Qur'ân
and acts on its teachings). Will you not
then understand?
27. • [032:002] The revelation of the Book (this Qur'ân) in which there is no doubt,
is from the Lord of the 'آlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists)!
• [036:002] By the Qur'ân, full of wisdom (i.e. full of laws, evidences, and
proofs),
•
• [036:003] Truly, you (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]) are one
of the Messengers,
•
• [036:004] On a Straight Path (i.e. on Allâh's religion of Islâmic Monotheism).
•
• [036:005] (This is a Revelation) sent down by the All-Mighty, the Most
Merciful,
•
• [036:006] In order that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not
warned, so they are heedless.
•
28. • [039:001] The revelation of this Book (the Qur'ân) is from Allâh, the
All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
•
• [039:002] Verily, We have sent down the Book to you (O
Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]) in truth. So, worship Allâh
(Alone) by doing religious deeds sincerely for Allâh's sake only.
•
• [039:003] Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is
for Allâh only. And those who take Auliyâ' (protectors, helpers, lords,
gods) besides Him (say): "We worship them only that they may
bring us near to Allâh." Verily, Allâh will judge between them
concerning that wherein they differ. Truly, Allâh guides not him who
is a liar, and a disbeliever.
29. • [039:023] Allâh has sent down the Best
Statement, a Book (this Qur'ân), its parts
resembling each other (in goodness and truth)
(and) oft-repeated. The skins of those who fear
their Lord shiver from it (when they recite it or
hear it). Then their skin and their heart soften to
the remembrance of Allâh. That is the Guidance
of Allâh. He guides therewith whom He wills; and
whomever Allâh sends astray, for him there is no
guide.
30. • [041:006] Say (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu
'alayhi wa sallam]): "I am only a human
being like you. It is revealed to me that
your Ilâh (God) is One Ilâh (God – Allâh),
therefore take Straight Path to Him (with
true Faith – Islâmic Monotheism) and
obedience to Him, and seek forgiveness of
Him. And woe to Al-Mushrikûn (the
polytheists, idolaters, disbelievers in the
Oneness of Allâh).
31. • [041:044] And if We had sent this as a Qur'ân in
a foreign language (other than Arabic), they
would have said: "Why are not its Verses
explained in detail (in our language)? What! (A
Book) not in Arabic and (the Messenger) an
Arab?" Say: "It is for those who believe, a guide
and a healing. And as for those who disbelieve,
there is heaviness (deafness) in their ears, and it
(the Qur'ân) is blindness for them. They are
those who are called from a place far away (so
they neither listen nor understand)."
32. • [042:015] So to this (religion of Islâm alone and this
Qur'ân) then invite (people) (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu
'alayhi wa sallam]), and stand firm (on Islâmic
Monotheism) as you are commanded, and follow not
their desires but say: "I believe in whatsoever Allâh has
sent down of the Book [all the holy Books, – this Qur'ân
and the Books of the old from the Taurât (Torah), or the
Injîl (Gospel) or the Pages of Ibrâhîm (Abraham)] and I
am commanded to do justice among you. Allâh is our
Lord and your Lord. For us our deeds and for you your
deeds. There is no dispute between us and you. Allâh
will assemble us (all), and to Him is the final return."
33. • [062:002] He it is Who sent among the
unlettered ones a Messenger (Muhammad [sal-
Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]) from among
themselves, reciting to them His Verses,
purifying them (from the filth of disbelief and
polytheism), and teaching them the Book (this
Qur'ân, Islâmic laws and Islâmic jurisprudence)
and Al-Hikmah (As-Sunnah: legal ways, orders,
acts of worship of Prophet Muhammad [sal-
Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]). And verily, they had
been before in manifest error;
34. • [003:078] And verily, among them is a party who distort
the Book with their tongues (as they read), so that you
may think it is from the Book, but it is not from the Book,
and they say: "This is from Allâh," but it is not from Allâh;
and they speak a lie against Allâh while they know it.
35. • [002.174] Verily, those who conceal what Allâh has sent down of the
Book, and purchase a small gain therewith (of worldly things), they
eat into their bellies nothing but fire. Allâh will not speak to them on
the Day of Resurrection, nor purify them, and theirs will be a painful
torment.
[002.175] Those are they who have purchased error at the price of
guidance, and torment at the price of forgiveness. So how bold they
are (for evil deeds which will push them) to the Fire.
[002.176] That is because Allâh has sent down the Book (the
Qur'ân) in truth. And verily, those who disputed as regards the Book
are far away in opposition.
36. • There is no change in curriculum of the islamic
educational institutions for last few centuries.
• Instead of improving the curriculum with the
changing social and scientific conditions, we are
following the tradition of the Prophets time by
remembering the quran and the tafsir without
knowing the meaning.
37. • "Judgment belongs to Allah alone" (6:57);
“Sovereignty of the skies and the earth
belongs to Him alone" (9:116);
• "Verily, His is the Creation and the
Command." (7:54)
