3. The Sama Veda
The Samaveda (sāman "song" and veda "knowledge")
Sama Veda is Purely a liturgical collection of melodies “Saman”
The Hymns is the Sama Veda, used as musical notes, were almost
completely drawn from the Rig Veda and have no distinctive lessons of

Embedded inside the Samaveda is the widely studied Chandogya
Upanishad and Kena Upanishad, considered as primary Upanishads and as
influential on the six schools of Hindu philosophy, particularly

melodies in Samaveda as one of its roots.

6. Sama Veda Samhita - Shakhas
According to Patajali, The Sama Veda had 1000 shakhas.
Today only three recessions are available:
(1) Kauthuma
(2) Jaiminiya(2) Jaiminiya
(3) Ranayaniya
Kauthuma Shakha is well known.
7. Sama Veda Samhita – Division
The Sama Veda Samhita consists of two parts
A. Purvarcika
B. Uttararcika
Purvarcika (650 Verses) contains four partsPurvarcika (650 Verses) contains four parts
1. Agneya – Verses for agni
2. Aindra - Verses for Indra
3. Pavamana - Verses for Soma Pavamana
4. Aranya - Verses for Indra, Agni, Soma etc.
The Uttararcika contains 1225 verses
Total verses of Soma Veda- Samhita are 1875.
Only 99 verses are new to this samhita, Rest are from Rigveda.
