4. Overview
Background
The Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS) provides programs and services that support international
students’ and scholars’ social, educational and professional success, creating an engaged global community. The
international community is the fuel that powers OISS and through programs and services, international students and
scholars strive to promote mutual understanding and cross-cultural exchange among international and local students.
LMU has been enrolling international students since 1956 and they currently represent over 75 countries.
Objective
To generate awareness and inform international students on programs and services as well as serve as a point of contact
for the whole international community.
Platform Selection
The selection took into consideration which platforms were most popular within the community as well as which
platforms we wanted to push. Based on observations of OISS’ current online presence, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
were selected as the most effective platforms.
Facebook will be the main platform because it is the #1 platform used by international students. Instagram will receive
secondary attention but will be the main platform for picture sharing. Twitter is not used by many international students
and for this reason, it will be updated less frequently and will be used for quick updates, reminders, and less relevant
information.
Goals
Currently the Facebook account is set up as a personal page. We aim to build a solid foundation with a decent following
before switching over to an official Facebook “like” page.

Tactics/Content
FACEBOOK
Meeting the International Community and its Leaders
• Meet the OISS Staff
• This would be done more towards the beginning of each semester in order to introduce the staff that oversees the
office. Mini biographies and pictures will be used to familiarize the new students with the people running the
programs.
• Meet the Front-Desk workers
• Can be done throughout the year in an effort
to show appreciation for the students that
help with the programs and events run by
OISS.
• Meet the iMentors
• Every year iMentors get assigned a number
of incoming international students in order to
help them with their transition. The profiles
would include a mini biography.
• Meet the International Orientation Student
Coordinators

7. • Meet members of the International House of
People (IHOP)
• IHOP aims to create a casual setting for the
international community to gather and
socialize. The people living in the house
would be introduced to the community in
order to create a comfortable environment.
• Spotlight on visiting Scholars
• International Student of the week/month
• This would highlight a student with a
particular achievement (eg. winning an award,
having a performance, outstanding
participation within the community, etc.)
• International Alumni of the month
• Used to share alumni’s accomplishments now that they are in the real world.
Around the World
• Heritage Day/Month
• To inform students of important cultural dates and have a little background/history on said date.
• Spotlight on international student studying abroad
• Even though international students at LMU are technically already studying abroad, a monthly post would be
written by an international student sharing their experience in another country.
• Iggy around the world
• Pictures of Iggy the Lion stuffed animal around the world (eg.
Great Wall of China, London Bridge, Eiffel Tower, etc.)
Internationalizing LMU
• Spotlight on other offices
• Background information on other offices around LMU that
collaborate with OISS (eg.
• Spotlight on cultural clubs
• Blurb on clubs at LMU that cater to different cultures (eg.
Spice Indian Club, Han Toa Chinese Club, etc.)

13. Lessons Learned
• People respond to interactive content and frequent/consistent posting.
• Diversity keeps people interested and self-promotion needs to be combined with promoting other
offices/clubs.
