Reasons for the protests

The pipeline cuts through sacred barrel sites
Work has stopped on the twenty-mile stretch of land that is being in questioned.

6. Arguments for the pipeline
The pipeline will contribute millions of dollars into local and state revenues and generate an
estimated $129 million annually in property and income taxes.
It will create 8,000 to 12,000 jobs
The pipeline’s location is not technically on standing rock’s reservation grounds.
7. Arguments against the pipeline
Extreme Environmental concerns
A leak could affect millions of people
The project is cutting through sacred barrel grounds
Standing Rock’s members were never consulted with about the project.
8. MY TAKE and prediction
Economic consideration: North Dakota has been hurt by the oil glut and this seems like a good
opportunity to create and stabilize North Dakota’s economy.
I think there needs to be an agreement reached with the Standing Rock Tribe.
Living on the Missouri river I am a bit nervous about the possibility of a leak so I would hope that
all cautions are taken into consideration.
My prediction: there will be a will a settlement involving a nice lump some of money and the
pipeline will be built as originally planned.
9. Questions
