How We Use Video
Technology
VIDEO TECHNOLOGY
In this day and age, most of what we do is based on technology.
This newsletter will demonstrate exactly what technology is and how it works. I will also show the
different types of technology and the abilities they posses.
I will discuss: User-Generated Content, Film Trailers, WWW, Mobile Devices, Viral Marketing,
Digital File Types.
E-LEARNING
E-Learning is a fantastic and interactive way for young children to learn. Instead of being
stuck in a classroom where, due to the atmosphere and lack of interactivity, they will not
learn as much as they do when they are doing more than just writing and drawing. E-
Learning offers thing

Sam Pattinson
"...we came across the word 'twitter', and it was just perfect. The defini-
tion was 'a short burst of inconsequential information,' and 'chirps from
birds'. And that's exactly what the product was." – Jack Dorsey, Twitter
Founder
User generated content is used by millions worldwide every
day.
The majority of social networking websites will contain
some form of user-generated content. It is important to re-
member that for the purposes of your newsletter any social
networking site should not be taken in isolation.
Facebook was founded in 2003 by Mark Zuckerberg. The
original domain was ‘www.thefacebook.com’ and it was an
idea to share your profile’s with other similar minded indi-
viduals.
It was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and launched
that July. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity,
with over 500 million active users as of 2012, generating
over 340 million tweets daily and handling over 1.6 billion
search queries per day. Since its launch, Twitter has be-
come one of the top 10 most visited websites on the Inter-
net, and has been described as "the SMS of the Internet.”
USER-GENERATED CONTENT
MORE ABOUT USER-GENERATED CONTENT
User-generated content is what it
says—something that somebody
has uploaded/created themselves.
For example, when you ‘tweet’ on
Twitter, that is user-generated
content. When you sell an item on
eBay—again it is user generated
content. Anything that you—the
user—uploads, tags or anything of
that nature, it is all user-
generated content.
TWITTER
LOGO
2
The first Twitter logo
was just simply the
word ‘twitter’ in blue
writing.
In September 2010
they kept the word and
changed it’s colour to
black. They also but
the bird (above)
named ‘Larry’ after an
idea from an employee.
In July 2012, they got
rid of the word ‘twitter’
completely and kept
the bird and changed
his name (and design
slightly) from Larry to
the Twitter Bird.
FILM TRAILERS
Film trailers are used every single day in the majority of
commercial breaks. They are used to advertise films that
are going to be released in the next few months. They main-
ly show the audience the type of film it is (genre) and the
general plot of the film. The point of these are to attract
more members of the public to watch their film. Before the
teaser trailer is released a months or two before the main
trailer, and this generates word-of-mouth of the film.
Movie trailers have now become popular on DVDs and Blu-
ray Discs, as well as on the Internet and mobile devices. Of
some ten billion videos watched online annually, film trail-
ers rank third, after news and user-created video.

THE WORLD WIBE WEB
The terms Internet and World Wide Web are often used in everyday
speech without much distinction. However, the Internet and the World
Wide Web are not one and the same. The Internet is a global system of
interconnected computer networks. In contrast, the Web is one of the
services that runs on the Internet. It is a collection of text documents
and other resources, linked by hyperlinks and URLs, usually accessed
by web browsers from web servers. In short, the Web can be thought of
as an application "running" on the Internet
The World Wide Web
(abbreviated as WWW or W3,
commonly known as the Web or
the Internet), is a system of inter-
linked hypertext documents ac-
cessed via the Internet. With a
web browser, one can view web
pages that may contain text, im-
ages, videos, and other multime-
dia, and navigate between them
via hyperlinks.
MOBILE DEVICES
MORE ABOUT THE WORLD WIDE WEB
A mobile device (also known as a handheld device, handheld computer
or simply handheld) is a small, hand-held computing device, typically
having a display screen with touch input and/or a miniature keyboard
and weighing less than 2 pounds (0.91 kg). Apple, HTC, Samsung, LG,
Research in Motion (RIM) and Motorola are just a few examples of the
many manufacturers that produce these types of devices. A camera or
media player feature for video or music files can also be typically found
on these devices along with a stable battery power source such as a lith-
ium battery.
4
The Web's logo designed by Robert Cailliau
Cadbury's Dairy Milk 2007 Gorilla advertising campaign was heavily
popularised on YouTube and Facebook
A handheld computing device has an operating system (OS), and can
run various types of application software, known as apps. Most hand
held devices can also be equipped with WI-FI, Bluetooth and GPS capa-
bilities that can allow connections to the Internet and other Bluetooth
capable devices such as an automobile or a microphone headset.
Smartphones and PDAs are popular amongst those who wish to use
some of the powers of a conventional computer in environments where
carrying one would not be practical. Enterprise digital assistants can
further extend the available functionality for the business user by offer-
ing integrated data capture devices like barcode, RFID and smart card
readers.
Viral marketing and viral
advertising are buzzwords
referring to marketing tech-
niques that use pre-existing
social networks and other
technologies to produce in-
creases in brand awareness
or to achieve other market-
ing objectives (such as prod-
uct sales) through self-
replicating viral processes,
analogous to the spread of
viruses or computer viruses.
It can be delivered by word
of mouth or enhanced by
the network effects of the
Internet and mobile net-
works. Viral marketing may
take the form of video clips,
interactive Flash games, ad-
vergames, eBooks, brand-
able software, images, text
messages, email messages,
or web pages. The most
common utilized transmis-
sion vehicles for viral mes-
sages include: pass-along
based, incentive based,
trendy based, and under-
cover based. However, the
creative nature of viral mar-
keting enables "endless
amount of potential forms
and vehicles the messages
can utilize for transmission"
including mobile devices.

DIGITAL FILE TYPES
A file format is a standard way that information is encoded for storage in a
computer file. A file format specifies how bits are used to encode information in
a digital storage medium.
Some file formats are designed for very particular types of data: PNG files, for
example, store bitmapped images using lossless data compression. Others, for
example, such as GIF (Graphics Interchange Format), are lots of pictures put
together and play, usually, at about 10 picture a second to make it look like it is
moving. Many file formats, including some of the most well-known, have a pub-
lished specifications (often with a reference implementation) that describe the
method of encoding data and can be used to test whether a program treats a
particular file format correctly.
Not all formats have freely available specification documents, partly because
some developers view their specification documents as trade secrets, and partly
because other developers never author a formal specification document, letting
precedent set by other programs define the format.

  • 2. "...we came across the word 'twitter', and it was just perfect. The defini- tion was 'a short burst of inconsequential information,' and 'chirps from birds'. And that's exactly what the product was." – Jack Dorsey, Twitter Founder User generated content is used by millions worldwide every day. The majority of social networking websites will contain some form of user-generated content. It is important to re- member that for the purposes of your newsletter any social networking site should not be taken in isolation. Facebook was founded in 2003 by Mark Zuckerberg. The original domain was ‘www.thefacebook.com’ and it was an idea to share your profile’s with other similar minded indi- viduals. It was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and launched that July. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 500 million active users as of 2012, generating over 340 million tweets daily and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day. Since its launch, Twitter has be- come one of the top 10 most visited websites on the Inter- net, and has been described as "the SMS of the Internet.” USER-GENERATED CONTENT MORE ABOUT USER-GENERATED CONTENT User-generated content is what it says—something that somebody has uploaded/created themselves. For example, when you ‘tweet’ on Twitter, that is user-generated content. When you sell an item on eBay—again it is user generated content. Anything that you—the user—uploads, tags or anything of that nature, it is all user- generated content. TWITTER LOGO 2 The first Twitter logo was just simply the word ‘twitter’ in blue writing. In September 2010 they kept the word and changed it’s colour to black. They also but the bird (above) named ‘Larry’ after an idea from an employee. In July 2012, they got rid of the word ‘twitter’ completely and kept the bird and changed his name (and design slightly) from Larry to the Twitter Bird.
  • 3. FILM TRAILERS Film trailers are used every single day in the majority of commercial breaks. They are used to advertise films that are going to be released in the next few months. They main- ly show the audience the type of film it is (genre) and the general plot of the film. The point of these are to attract more members of the public to watch their film. Before the teaser trailer is released a months or two before the main trailer, and this generates word-of-mouth of the film. Movie trailers have now become popular on DVDs and Blu- ray Discs, as well as on the Internet and mobile devices. Of some ten billion videos watched online annually, film trail- ers rank third, after news and user-created video. 3
  • 4. THE WORLD WIBE WEB The terms Internet and World Wide Web are often used in everyday speech without much distinction. However, the Internet and the World Wide Web are not one and the same. The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks. In contrast, the Web is one of the services that runs on the Internet. It is a collection of text documents and other resources, linked by hyperlinks and URLs, usually accessed by web browsers from web servers. In short, the Web can be thought of as an application "running" on the Internet The World Wide Web (abbreviated as WWW or W3, commonly known as the Web or the Internet), is a system of inter- linked hypertext documents ac- cessed via the Internet. With a web browser, one can view web pages that may contain text, im- ages, videos, and other multime- dia, and navigate between them via hyperlinks. MOBILE DEVICES MORE ABOUT THE WORLD WIDE WEB A mobile device (also known as a handheld device, handheld computer or simply handheld) is a small, hand-held computing device, typically having a display screen with touch input and/or a miniature keyboard and weighing less than 2 pounds (0.91 kg). Apple, HTC, Samsung, LG, Research in Motion (RIM) and Motorola are just a few examples of the many manufacturers that produce these types of devices. A camera or media player feature for video or music files can also be typically found on these devices along with a stable battery power source such as a lith- ium battery. 4 The Web's logo designed by Robert Cailliau
  • 5. Cadbury's Dairy Milk 2007 Gorilla advertising campaign was heavily popularised on YouTube and Facebook A handheld computing device has an operating system (OS), and can run various types of application software, known as apps. Most hand held devices can also be equipped with WI-FI, Bluetooth and GPS capa- bilities that can allow connections to the Internet and other Bluetooth capable devices such as an automobile or a microphone headset. Smartphones and PDAs are popular amongst those who wish to use some of the powers of a conventional computer in environments where carrying one would not be practical. Enterprise digital assistants can further extend the available functionality for the business user by offer- ing integrated data capture devices like barcode, RFID and smart card readers. Viral marketing and viral advertising are buzzwords referring to marketing tech- niques that use pre-existing social networks and other technologies to produce in- creases in brand awareness or to achieve other market- ing objectives (such as prod- uct sales) through self- replicating viral processes, analogous to the spread of viruses or computer viruses. It can be delivered by word of mouth or enhanced by the network effects of the Internet and mobile net- works. Viral marketing may take the form of video clips, interactive Flash games, ad- vergames, eBooks, brand- able software, images, text messages, email messages, or web pages. The most common utilized transmis- sion vehicles for viral mes- sages include: pass-along based, incentive based, trendy based, and under- cover based. However, the creative nature of viral mar- keting enables "endless amount of potential forms and vehicles the messages can utilize for transmission" including mobile devices. • 6. DIGITAL FILE TYPES A file format is a standard way that information is encoded for storage in a computer file. A file format specifies how bits are used to encode information in a digital storage medium. Some file formats are designed for very particular types of data: PNG files, for example, store bitmapped images using lossless data compression. Others, for example, such as GIF (Graphics Interchange Format), are lots of pictures put together and play, usually, at about 10 picture a second to make it look like it is moving. Many file formats, including some of the most well-known, have a pub- lished specifications (often with a reference implementation) that describe the method of encoding data and can be used to test whether a program treats a particular file format correctly. Not all formats have freely available specification documents, partly because some developers view their specification documents as trade secrets, and partly because other developers never author a formal specification document, letting precedent set by other programs define the format.
