Samuele Guerriero Reference
I have known Sam since he arrived to study for an MSc in Petroleum Geoscience at the University of
Manchester in September 2014. My comments are based upon my experiences teaching him
together with advice and discussions over careers and other self-motivated activities related to his
degree.
Sam is a very personable individual, easy to get along with; he is hard working and determined to do
well. Currently he is one of the top students in what is proving a very high quality Master
programme at Manchester and I am confident that he will achieve a very high grade upon
completion of his studies. His target of a Distinction is entirely realistic. He is technically very able
and has a good intuitive feel for his subject asking insightful and challenging questions and thinking
issues through carefully. In addition to his undoubted technical ability Sam has an excellent set of
behavioural skills. He is a good team player and popular member of his class. He is always seeking
opportunities to develop and better himself and take the initiative. Two excellent examples of this
are his successful setting up his own independent research project with ENI as part of his MSc and
also by the way he has, off his own back, taken a lead role in representing the Manchester MSc
programme at the summer 2015 EAGE Conference in Madrid. Here he has worked with the faculty
team to arrange stands and displays at the event. Both of these examples set Sam out from the
majority of his class and reflect his strong determination to succeed.
I have no hesitation in strongly endorsing Sam’s application and would recommend him for a
suitable technically based role in the Upstream Oil & Gas industry. He is an excellent student,
mature, self-starting and very competent. Please let me know if you need any further information in
support of his application.
