This presentation can be used to educate the public and youth about the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019. It includes basic information about the virus, symptoms associated with it, and preventive measures. Information is sourced from the World Health Organization and Johns Hopkins Medicine. Please note the statistics for the number of people recovered and death may change as more information is being captured.
2. What is Coronavirus?
▸ Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that
cause a variety of diseases.
▸ The Novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a
new strain of this virus that was discovered in
2019 and this is the first time the virus infected
humans.
▸ This virus was transmitted to humans from an
animal in China.

3. How does this virus spread?
▸ The virus spreads from person to person through
small droplets from the nose and mouth. When
someone who has the virus sneezes or coughs or
exhales, small droplets carrying the virus spreads
from their nose and mouth to the air and on
different objects. If someone else breathes in
those droplets or touches the objects with the
virus and then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth,
they too will fall sick.

4. How do I know if I have the virus?
▸ The only sure way of knowing whether you have
been infected with the virus or not is through
laboratory tests.
▸ However, those who fall sick because of this virus
show signs and symptoms within 14 days of
being infected.
▸ Please note you may be infected but not show
any signs during the first few days after infection.

5. What are the symptoms?
▸ The most common symptoms of are fever,
tiredness, and dry cough. Some people may have
body aches and pains, runny nose, sore throat,
difficulty breathing or diarrhea. These symptoms
are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people
become infected but don’t develop any symptoms
and don't feel unwell.

6. Is there a cure or vaccine?
▸ There is no treatment or vaccine for this virus.
▸ However, 80% of people infected with this virus
get mild symptoms and recover on their own .
▸ Around 20% become very sick and develop
difficulty breathing, and approximately 2% die.

7. How can I protect myself?

Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly, using soap
and water for at least 20 seconds. Use alcohol-based
hand sanitizer if soap and water aren’t available.
