This document discusses solar energy. It begins by introducing the author and course details. Then, it describes how solar energy is generated through photovoltaic cells that convert sunlight directly into electricity or through concentrated solar power. It discusses some applications of solar power like cooking, greenhouses, water pumping, and power generation. Finally, it outlines advantages like being renewable and pollution-free and disadvantages such as high initial costs and no power at night.

3. • WHAT IS SOLAR
ENERGY
• Solar energy is the ultimate source of energy from millions of years
and it is a renewable energy.
• This energy consists of radiant light and heat energy from the sun. The
sun is an inexhaustible an pollution free source of energy.Out of all
energy emitted by sun only a small fraction of energy is absorbed by
the earth.
• Just this tiny fraction of the sun's energy that hits the earth is enough
to meet all our power needs.Using present solar techniques some of
the solar energy reaching the earth is utilized for generating electricity
etc....Even then the energy demand met by using solar energy is very
less.

5. • GENERATION OF SOLAR
ENERGY
• Solar power is the
conversion of sunlight into
electricity, either directly
using photovoltaic (PV),or
indirectly using
concentrated solar
power(CSP)
• Photovoltaic converts light
into electric current using
the photoelectriceffect.
7. • APPLICATION
• Cooking of food
• Green house
• Water pumping
• Solar furnances
• Power generation
• Heating and colling Of building
8. ■ Some vehicles use solar panels for auxiliary
power, such as for air conditioning, to keep the
interior cool, thus reducing fuel consumption
■ A solar balloon is a black balloon that is
filled with ordinary air.
■ Solar sails are a proposed form of
spacecraft propulsion using large membrane
mirrors to exploit radiation pressure from the
sun.
FUTURE OF SOLAR
ENERGY
9. • ADVANTAGES
