1. What is a cell?
1. A cell is the smallest unit of life. Cells are often called the "building blocks
of life". The study of cells is called cell biology, cellular biology, or
cytology. Cells consist of cytoplasm enclosed within a membrane, which
contains many biomolecules such as proteins and nucleic acids.
2. In biology, cell is the basic membrane-bound unit that contains the
fundamental molecules of life and of which all living things are composed.

building blocks of large multicellular organisms, such as humans and other
animals
3. The smallest structural and functional unit of an organism, which is

2. पेशी म्हणजे काय?

8. 1. Cell Membrane:
The cell membrane is the outer coating of the cell and contains the cytoplasm,
substances within it and the organelle. It is a double-layered membrane composed
of proteins and lipids. The lipid molecules on the outer and inner part (lipid
bilayer) allow it to selectively transport substances in and out of the cell.
2. Endoplasmic Reticulum:
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a membranous structure that contains a
network of tubules and vesicles. Its structure is such that substances can move
through it and be kept in isolation from the rest of the cell until the manufacturing
processes conducted within are completed. There are two types of endoplasmic
reticulum – rough (granular) and smooth (agranular).
A) The rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER / granular ER) contains a combination of proteins
and enzymes. These parts of the endoplasmic reticulum contain a number of ribosomes giving
it a rough appearance. Its function is to synthesize new proteins.
B) The smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER / agranular ER) does not have any attached
ribosomes. Its function is to synthesize different types of lipids (fats). The smooth ER also
plays a role in carbohydrate and drug metabolism.
3. Golgi Apparatus:
The Golgi apparatus is a stacked collection of flat vesicles. It is closely associated with the
endoplasmic reticulum in that substances produced in the ER are transported as vesicles and
fuses with the Golgi apparatus. In this way, the products from the ER are stored in the Golgi
apparatus and converted into different substances that are necessary for the cell’s various
functions.

21. पेिींसंदिाात काही महत्वाचे मुद्दे
• सवा सजीव हे एक क्रकं वा जास्त पेिीं पासून बनलेले आहेत.
• पेिी प्रचर्नांपासून बनलेल्या आहेत.
• अनेक पेिी शमळून उती / पेिीसमूह बनवतात. त्यापासून अवयव तयार
होतात.
• पवपवध प्रकारच्या पेिी असतात आणि त्यांचे काया ठरलेले असते.
• काही पेिी संपूिा िरीरात हालचाल करतात (रतत पेिी) तर काही स्नायू,
हाडे यांना धरून असतात.
• पेिी मृत पाविे आणि त्यांच्या जागी नवीन पेिी जागा घेिे ही प्रक्रक्रया
ननयशमत चालते.
• त्वचेच्या पेिींची झीज लवकर होते आणि ते मृत पावतात. परंतु त्यांची
पुनननाशमाती अनतिय लवकर होते.
• सवाात मोठी पेिी ही चेता पेिी आहे.( motor neuron) 4.5 ft.
• लाल रतत पेिी या संपूिा िरीरात रतत प्रवाद्रहत करण्याचे काया करतात
आणि त्यांची ननशमाती हाडांच्या मगज मध्ये (bone marrow) होत असते.
• िरीरात पवपवध पेिी जरी असल्या तरी त्यांचे घटक सारखेच असतात.

22. Cell division (पेशी ववभाजन)
• Cell division is the process by which a cell, called the parent cell, divides into two
cells, called daughter cells. When the cell divides, everything inside it divides
also. The nucleus and the chromosomes divide, and the mitochondria divide
also.

• Cell division is the basis for all forms of organismal reproduction. To reproduce in

पेशीांच्या जागी नवीन पेशी ननमावण होऊन कायव सुरळीत चालणयासाठी पेशी

• Single cells organisms divide to reproduce. Cell division in multicellular
organisms produces specialized reproductive cells such as egg and sperm.
• In order a cell to divide, the genome must also divide. So in all types of cell
division in all organisms DNA replication precedes cell division.

23. Types of cell division in animal cell
• There are two types of cell division: mitosis and meiosis. Most of the time when
people refer to “cell division,” they mean mitosis, the process of making new body
cells. Meiosis is the type of cell division that creates egg and sperm cells.

24. Mitosis and meiosis has some phases in common. Prophase,
Metaphase ,Anaphase and Telophase are four main phases.

25. Stages of the cell cycle
• To divide, a cell must complete several important tasks: it must
grow, copy its genetic material (DNA), and physically split into two
daughter cells. Cells perform these tasks in an organized,
predictable series of steps that make up the cell cycle. The cell cycle
is a cycle, rather than a linear pathway, because at the end of each
go-round, the two daughter cells can start the exact same process
over again from the beginning.
• In eukaryotic cells, or cells with a nucleus, the stages of the cell
cycle are divided into two major phases: interphase and the mitotic
(M) phase.
• During interphase, the cell grows and makes a copy of its DNA.
• During the mitotic (M) phase, the cell separates its DNA into two
sets and divides its cytoplasm, forming two new cells.
