PoE patch panels marks
the integration of PoE power injection within a cross connect panel
designed with the elevated performance of Clarity5E
.
The IEEE 802.3af standard defines a means of supplying power over an
Ethernet cable to a remote device, eliminating the need for a separate
power supply, outlet, or new electrical wiring. Ortronics Clarity PoE
patch panels allow for power to be injected within the horizontal patch
panel.Thiseliminatestheneedforaseparatemidspanpoweringdevice
or the added expense and concerns of making PoE a requirement of
the Ethernet switch, while providing a cost effective way to deploy
power where it is not easily accessible.
Ortronics Clarity PoE patch panel is ideal for applications such as
VoIP, deployment of wireless APs, security cameras, and many other
devices that can now be integrated into the LAN. The panel supports
the maximum allowed 15.4 watts per port, with 802.3af compliant
polling, which confirms that connected devices are compatible before
introducing PoE power to the channel.
Clarity PoE patch panels are available in two different versions to
suit the needs of any installation. For easier ordering, it is available
as a completely self-contained design that includes a 16 port panel,
PoE controller and power supply. A modular design is also available,
which allows the cross connect and powering functions to be installed
in stages. The 16 port cross connect panel can be installed first,
terminating to the horizontal cabling. The controller and power supply
can then be added at a future date when power is required. This can
significantly reduce the cost of the initial phase of the installation,
postponing the cost of the power until it is required at some future
date.
Clarity PoE patch panels exceed all TIA Category 5e component
requirements and are precision targeted to the Clarity5E
patch cords for
optimum performance that is field measurable in the channel. These
panels use dual reactance technology with center tuning to enhance
signal-to-noise performance, providing a nearly transparent signal
path. Clarity PoE panels include standard Clarity features such as easy-
to-read color code labels and improvements to the IDC contacts and
housings that make lacing easier for quicker termination. All panels
are labeled for T568B wiring but can be easily converted to T568A
with a simple change of a supplied label, making this a truly universal
panel solution.
The power supply is designed to snap-mount on either the left or right side of the panel with
the continued ability to reposition after installation, even when the panel is active, ensuring
easy access to all horizontal cable terminations.

Real Time Monitoring Capabilities

The center LED labeled POWER ENABLED lights up to indicate that
the controller has input power applied and is operational.

The bi-color LEDs that are labeled 1 through 16 indicate the status
of their respective port, as follows:
LED = OFF indicates no power is delivered to the port
LED = ON GREEN indicates power is delivered to the port
LED = ON RED indicates fault of any kind on the port

The serial port on the PoE Controller allows the installer to view the
status of any of the ports on the controller or to set any of a number of
parameters to customize the panel to the requirements of a specific
installation. This interface and software is meant to be used as part of
the installation/service process, and not for runtime management.
Specifications
The power supply accepts an input voltage of 100-240VAC, 47-63Hz,
and provides two outputs:
+48VDC@5.3A and +5VDC@1A. Both outputs are isolated from the
earth ground/chassis connections in accordance with IEEE 802.3af,
withstanding a hi-pot test of 1500Vrms for 60 seconds.
The PoE Controller receives the isolated +48VDC and +5VDC voltages
from the power supply and provides IEEE 802.3af compliant PoE
functionality to all 16 ports on the panel. Additional circuitry in the
modules isolates the modular connector side (equipment/switch) from
the PoE voltages.
