the maritime police in the
Bay of Biscay and the
military patrol in the Horn
of Africa have considerably
reduced piracy in these
areas.
10.
11.
12. The latest acts of
piracy recorded this
year in the Gulf of
Guinea show that
efforts still need to be
made.
13. For sailors, all
interventions after an
act of piracy, after a
hostage-taking, after an
attack on ships; never
repair the trauma
suffered by seafarers.
14. For the merchant navy and seafarers,
beneficiaries of measures taken by
ECOWAS, SWAIMS, the Secretariat of
Eta responsible for state action at sea
and the DGAMP; the permanent
presence (24 hours a day) of warships or
patrol boats off Abidjan or in the Gulf of
Guinea reassured sailors and should
deter pirates in this area.
17. To improve the level of
security in this area and

noted that off
Abidjan all the ships
that serve the ports
of West Africa pass.

Cote d'Ivoire compared to
other countries in the sub-
region attracts many ships
to this port but also all
types of illicit trafficking off
Abidjan.
