Project Description:
The Web Publishing System (WPS) was originally developed as - and continues to serve as - Pearson Education's
proprietary web authoring and publishing system. WPS provides a content authoring environment and publishing
tools for a community of Pearson Higher Education and International media and production editors. Companion
Websites authored in WPS provide review and supplementary content, media access, quizzing, and — optionally —
storage and reporting of quiz results through Gradebook/Grade Tracker and Class Manager. To meet the needs of
an expanded volume of Companion Websites and many uniquely branded websites, WPS provides a reliable and
scalable software architecture and hardware infrastructure. Increasingly, WPS is also a content repository,
providing for the storage and repurposing of hundreds of thousands of individual content objects. Pearson’s Web
Publishing System:
 Provides offline authoring tools and import/export facilities that enable authors to create and edit WPS
content in Microsoft Word. For details, visit Offline Authoring Tools
 Automates content conversion to Blackboard, Course Compass, and WebCT.

  • 7. Project Description: FT.com is one of the world's leading business information providers and the Internet partner of the Financial Times. The website combines the values and authority of the Financial Times newspaper with the immediacy and interactivity of the Internet. One of the challenges facing FT.com is with regards to authentication and authorization of these third party web services. Financial Times wishes to address this challenge through a Data Access Mechanism Tasks undertaken: 1. Cookie based authentication using encrypted cookie 2. Eliminate multiple logins 3. Database is centralized at FT only and not in 3rd parties The cookies were encrypted using MD5 algorithm and were dropped on client machines, so that other applications except FTDAM cannot read the cookie values stored in client machines. Another objective was to implement SSO (Single Sign On), so that users do not have to login at multiple places to access data from the web services. Third Objective was to centralize all the databases at FT sites only, anyone who wants to access the data is required to first authenticate themselves at the FT sites.
