Sas Statistical Analysis System
1. SAS
Statistical analysis system
SAS pronounced as Saas. Is a software suite
developed by sas institute for advance
analysis, Business Intelligence, predictive
analysis, data management which help
organization
to operate effectively in the competitive and
changing business conditions.
2. • In addition it helps in improving performance,
profitability and decisions.
• SAS provides a Enterprise software named,
SAS Intelligence Platform which consist of various
aspects i.e. Applications exist on Multiple
machines.
SAS Intelligence platform is a JAVA application.
SAS IP uses JDBC (JAVA DATA BASED
CONNECTION) technology from oracle
corporations.
3. SAS system
COMPONENTS OF THE SAS SYSTEM
REPORTING AND GRAPHICS.
ANALYTICS.
VISUALIZATION AND DISCOVERY.
DATA ACCESS AND MANAGEMENT.
BASE SAS. (Programming)
BUSINESS SOLUTIONS.
USER INTERFACES.
APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT.
WEB ENABLEMENT.
5. • Client tier:-Client tier is where the application
is installed on a machine, where user sitting.
• Types of client application are:-
• Java application.
• Windows application.
• Web browser application.
6. • Web tier:- Web tier is where web application
resides and executes.
• Infrastructure that supports the execution of
the web browser application are:-
• Java application server.
• Java SDK(Software development Kit).
• Web DAV (Distributed Authoring &
Versioning)server
7. • Server Tier:-Server tier is one or more
machines where the SAS server are installed
and accessed by BI applications.
• The different types of server are:-
• Metadata server.
• Workspace server.
• Stored process server.
• OLAP server.
8. • Metadata server:- META data is a prefix in
information technology usually means
underlying definition or description.
• Meta data is data about data.
• Can be created manually or automated.
• Eg-size of a file , description of the file.
9. • Workspace server:- The SAS workspace server
is a single user server.
• There are two categories of server
configuration:-
• Default server configuration.
• Pooled server configuration.
10. • Stored processes server:-This server runs under a
single shared user identity and is a single process
shared by many clients.
• A stored processes is a SAS program that is stored on
a server and described by metadata.
• Stored processes can create new dataset, files and
reports output in a variety of formats.
Note:-I will try to explain SAS programs in next session of SAS
tutorials.
11. • OLAP server:- SAS OLAP server is a standard
complaint OLAP data source that retrieves
result for MDX queries.
• It quickly delivers summarized data to BI
application in a format that enables
processing , reporting and lowers the burden
on by simplifying adhoc reporting and data
summaries.
12. • Data tier:- The data tier contains the
enterprise data sources:-
• SAS data sets.
• RDBMS tables.
• OLAP cubes.
• SAS SPD server files.
• ERP data structures.
13. Desktop applications.
• SAS Intelligence platform consist of Applications-
• 1.SAS INFORMATION MAP STUDIO. (IMPS)
• 2.SAS OLAP CUBE STUDIO.(OLAP)
• 3.SAS DATA INTEGRATION STUDIO. (ETL)
• 4.SAS ADD_IN_FOR_MICROSOFT.
• 5.SAS ENTERPRISE GUIDE. (EG)
14. WEB Based Applications.
• 6.SAS WEB REPORT STUDIO. (WRS)
• 7.SAS INFORMATION DELIVERY PORTAL. (IDP)
• 8.SAS BI DASHBOARD.
• 9.SAS OLAP viewer for java.
15. Desktop based applications.
• INFORMATION MAP STUDIO:-
‘”Information Map studio is used to build
information Maps, which shield for business
users for the complexities of underlying data
by organizing and referencing data in business
terms”.
Note-Person who deals with business data are
called business users.
16. • OLAP CUBE STUDIO:- SAS OLAP cube studio
is used to create OLAP cubes.
• Cubes contains the data organized and
summarized into multidimensional structure.
• Cubes are created on Detailed table(Original
table) or star schema.
• Cube consist of Dimension, Level, Hierarchy.
• MDX expressions are used to query against a
Cube.
17. • SAS DATA INTEGREATION:- SAS DI is used in
ETL(Extract,Transform,load) process.
18. • SAS add_in_ for_Microsoft office:-Provides
you the ability to hardness the power of SAS
analytics and access SAS data sources.
• We use add_ins for adhoc reporting { creating
for particular purpose only} to execute stored
processes dynamically and embed the results
in your documents , spreadsheets and
slideshows.
19. • In general we do is,
• Access and view SAS data sources.
• Access and view any other data sources that is
available from your SAS server.
• Analyze SAS or Excel data using analytic tasks.
• Note:- Business users are very familiar with MS
office as a BI application , so its important and
user friendly in use.
20. • SAS ENTERPRISE GUIDE:- Enterprise guide is a querying and
reporting tool which is also used for conversion of source
data into SAS data files.
-Provides.
• An intuitive(easy to understand), visual interface.
• Access the power of SAS.
• Transparent access to data.
• Ready to use task for analysis and reporting.
• Easy exporting of data and results to other applications.
• Scripting and automation.
• Note:-SAS programming ,is a sequence of steps that the user
submits for execution. i.e.PROC step and DATA step.
21. Web based application
• Web Report studio (WRS):- WRS is a reporting
application, designed for business users to view,
author and share reports on Web.
• WRS is similar to Desktop application. viz.
Enterprise Guide.
• Note:- there is no need to install Web
applications, its zero download software. You just
need to check the services are running and
initialize the requried services.
Eg.Tomcat,Sas services.
22. • Information Delivery Portal :- (IDP) Enables
you to view and organize content on portal.
• Which are the pages and portlets surface all
types of information, including SAS
Information Maps, SAS WRS,SAS stored
processes.
• Portlet is a rectangular display components of
the portal in which content and links to
content are displayed.
23. • SAS BI Dashboard:-BI dashboard is used for
creating , maintaining and viewing dashboard.
• Is surfaced as portlet in the SAS IDP.
• SAS BI dashboard is an application that
represents the latest evolution of Dashboarding
using SAS. It enables the rapid creation and
deployment of dashboards that display data from
a wide variety of data sources and system.
• Dashboards is a way to represent numbers in
easily consumable , graphical form to display key
metrics within an organization.
24. • SAS OLAP viewer for java:- used for viewing
SAS OLAP cubes. Provides an easy-to-use
interface from which you can select a data
source , view the data , and customize your
view.
