The new concept of Asset Management focus on continuous monitoring (e.g. sensors,
satellite, apps), knowledge of the actual condition of ports and predictive maintenance
with clear benefits in:
 Operational reliability as failures will be reduced/eliminated
 Capacity, through maximum availability and use of the ports
 Life Cycle cost savings, through the optimization in the maintenance activities
 Safety as the number and magnitude of incidents will be reduced
“Good Asset Management practice advises that you should only be as sophisticated as you need to
be. In other words, high levels of maturity in Asset Management practices for an asset base which is
of low complexity and low criticality will attract unnecessary cost”(Robert Davis, IMM)

  • 12. ©SENER 2019 How technology can improve capacity and competitiveness in the port business The new concept of Asset Management focus on continuous monitoring (e.g. sensors, satellite, apps), knowledge of the actual condition of ports and predictive maintenance with clear benefits in:  Operational reliability as failures will be reduced/eliminated  Capacity, through maximum availability and use of the ports  Life Cycle cost savings, through the optimization in the maintenance activities  Safety as the number and magnitude of incidents will be reduced “Good Asset Management practice advises that you should only be as sophisticated as you need to be. In other words, high levels of maturity in Asset Management practices for an asset base which is of low complexity and low criticality will attract unnecessary cost”(Robert Davis, IMM) ASSET MANAGEMENT
