3. Definition
Plantar fasciitis –is one of the most
common cause of heel Pain. It involves
inflammation of a thick band of tissue
that run across the bottom of foot and
connect your heel bone to your toes.
Plantar fasciitis is the largest ligament
that connect the heel bone to the toes. It
act as the support of the foot arch and
once its get strained, it become weak
irritated and swollen.
4. CAUSE
Cause of plantar fasciitis-Through plantar fasciitis arise without an obvious
cause. factor that can increase your risk of developing plantar fasciitis include;
1.Age-planatar fasciitis is most common between the of 50or60. men can get
plantar fasciitis, it is more common in women.
2.Certain type of exercise-activities that place lot of stress on your heel and
attached tissue-such as distance-running ,ballistic jumping activities, , dancing
,aerobic dance-can contribute to an earlier onset of plantar fasciitis.
3.Foot mechanics-being flat footed, having a high arch or even having a
abnormal pattern of walking can effect the way weight is distributed when you
are standing and put stress on the plantar fasciitis.
4.Obesity-excess pound put extra stress on your plantar fascia.
5.Occupation-factory worker ,teacher and other who spend most of their work
hour walking or standing on hard surface.
6.wearing high heel shoes; and switching abruptly to flat shoes.
7.Having leg of uneven length or an abnormal walk or foot position.
6. symptoms
1.The major complaint of those with plantar fasciitis is pain on
the bottom of the heel.
2.The pain is usually worse in the morning when you take your
first step out of bed.
3.Climmimng stairs can be very difficult due to heel stiffness.
4.Some people pain at the bottom mid foot area. this develops
gradually over time.it usually affects just one foot, but it effect
both feet.
5.Some people pain is dull.
6.Some people is sharp pain.
7.Some people feel a burning or ache on the bottom of the foot
extending outward from the heel.
8.After prolonged activity, the pain can flare up due to increased
inflammation.

8. Treatment of plantar fasciitis
Physiotherapy Treatment-
1.Physiotherapy will design exercise to improve flexibility in the calf muscle,
Achilles, tendon and the plantar fasciitis.
2.We will apply treatment to the pain full area to help control pain and swelling
.Example-include Ultrasound ,ice packs, and soft tissue massage.
3.Stretching or Massaging the plantar fasciitis before standing up can often reduce
heel pain.
4.Strech your foot by flexing it up and down10 times before standing.
5.Use a towel to stretch the bottom of your foot.
6.Wear a night splint while you sleep. Night splints hold the ankle and foot in a
position that keeps the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia slightly stretched.
7.Massage the bottom of your foot across the width of the plantar fascia before
getting out of bed.
8.Always wear shoes when you out of bed,even if it is just to go to the washroom.
9.Quality sandal, Athletic shoes ,or any other comfortable shoes with good arch
support will work.
9. Treatment of plantar fasciitis (Ctnd.)
Exercise to do each day-
1.Stretching or strengthening exercise will help
reduce plantar fasciitis.
Stretching exercise; use a rolling pin or tennis ball.
While seated, roll the rolling pin or ball with the
arch of your foot.
2.Toe stretch towel stretch calf stretch plantar fascia
and calf stretch strengthening exercise; towel curl
and Markel pick up.
12. Complication of plantar fasciitis
I. Heel pain from plantar fasciitis may keep you from
your normal activities and alter your gait.
II. The change in gait can cause increased force on your
feet, hip ,knee ,back, while causing pain to spread to
more joints.
