Education
2007–20015 Master Biomedical Engineering, Bachelor Electronic Engineering, La
Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia.
2011 Student Exchange, Linköpings universitet, Linköping, Sweden.
2004–2006 Humanities, La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia.
Awards
2009 Dean’s Honours Award.
Master Thesis
Title Neural Network Geometry and Information Flow
Supervisor Paul Junor
I describe the creation of a biologically informed neural network consisting of intricate
and varied cell forms. Modelled neurons were connected together using a parallel wiring
algorithm implemented in NEURON, Python and MPI on a parallel machine. Information
flow was quantified between every pair of neurons in the network.
Experience
January
2015–June 2015
Okinawa Institute of Science And Technology, Research Internship, depart-
ment of Computational Neuroscience, In my research internship I designed and
implemented an extension to the Model Description language nineML. The nineml
extension is used to describe of ion channel dynamics and by contributions to the
supporting Python library lib9ml. I begun porting a large biophysically detailed
model of the cerebellar cortex that is being developed by the CNU into NineML. I
also ported scripts for automated parameter fitting of neuronal models to run on
the new HPC cluster at OIST.
July
2012-November
2012
La Trobe University, laboratory demonstrator, As a laboratory demonstrator
I clarified course work problems and I provided general support to students in
use of NEURON-7.3 software for laboratories in the subject Neural Engineering:
ELE4NUE.
January 2000 -
June 2000
Green Corps, Maclean NSW Australia, Forest revegation/regeneration, In
Green Corps I was involved in plant propagation, plant identification, weed removal,
applying round up, all for the purpose of restoring damaged rain forest regions
around Maclean in Northern NSW.
Volunteer
February 2000 -
June 2005
Volunteer Experience, Willing Workers On Organic Farms, Applying permacul-
ture principles to create long term food forests.
