 Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work and communicate with individuals from
across multiple disciplines
QUALIFICATIONS AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow (May 2015 - Present)
 Developing a novel system to study protein-protein interactions in Drosophila cultured cells
using state-of-the-art biochemical techniques such as proximity-dependent biotin identification
(BioID).
Ph.D Biology (Sept 2006 - Feb 2015)
 Funded by provincial and federal granting agencies, and in collaboration with the
Biotechnology industry, performed research to identify and validate new drug targets for the
development of novel anti-parasitic and pesticide compounds.
 Developed expertise in a variety of research techniques such as genetics, cellular and
molecular biology, neurobiology and renal-physiology in order to characterize in-vivo
properties of 3 new ligand-gated ion channels.
 Presented research findings at 9 scientific conferences including several parasitology
symposia, a national neuroscience conference and 2 international research conferences.
 Initiated collaborations and managed correspondences with several principal investigators
from other academic institutions. Fostered productive partnerships to help ensure continued
advancement of research.
Teaching/Supervisory experience:
 Teaching assistant – Biology 306, Neural Basis of Behaviour (2008, 2010). Routinely
organized small group discussions and led large-scale tutorial sessions for a class of
approximately 180 students.
 Guest lecturer – Biology 306, Neural Basis of Behaviour (2010)
 Mentored and supervised 4 undergraduate students.Trained students in a variety of
laboratory techniques and directed research projects spanning several semesters.
 Provided technical training to visiting scientists in electrophysiology and longevity assays.
Neurobiology search committee – Student representative (2009):
 Appointed by faculty staff members as the student representative on a search committee for
the hiring of a tenure-track position researcher in the department of biology. Read all
incoming applications, coordinated discussion groups with candidates and graduate
students, compiled feedback from the student body, and represented graduate students
during committee and departmental-faculty voting sessions.
