HOW TO BUILD A
PRODUCTIVE
TEAM?
We have all heard the classic tale about the farmer and his four sons, in which the father is on his deathbed and
gives each of his sons a bundle of four sticks to break, which they do without any difficulty. But, on the other hand,
despite their best efforts, they are unsuccessful when he offers them a bundle of four sticks to break. It didn't
occur to any of us at the time, even though we had all deduced the lesson from the story, which was that unity is
the key to success, that this was also our first lesson about teamwork and leadership.
The cultivation and improvement of one's interpersonal skills are necessary for success in one's life. It may be
sufficient for highly driven individuals to have a general direction for them, after which they should be given the
opportunity to contribute to the specific workshop schedules. Training should be provided to members in order to
develop their talents in team building. Schedule time for personal growth in all aspects of compelling motivation
and a good attitude to enhance the capabilities of team members and increase their likelihood of success. It is
necessary to have an understanding of what is meant by "collaborative learning" to have a better grasp on the
significance of developing strong teams.
What does it mean to learn through collaboration?
Students work together in groups to learn and accomplish shared academic objectives via various forms of
information and communication technology (ICT). This type of learning is closely tied to the concept of
cooperative learning.
In conventional modes of education, a single instructor is held exclusively accountable for all aspects of the
classroom experience.
The kids were accustomed to working independently and coming to the teacher for any necessary guidance.
Students are responsible for their work and compete against one another under this system. Learning is very
marginally affected by interactions involving sharing and assistance. The key focuses here are individual
instruction and accomplishment of one's own goals. In contrast, students in collaborative learning are expected to
participate more actively in the learning process and share what they have learned. It fosters a community among
the students that is supportive and motivating.
In this kind of education, each student is responsible not only for him or herself but also for the other members of
the group. The students assist one another, work together, learn from one another, and ultimately achieve the goal
together as a group. Students are better prepared to assume greater personal and collective responsibility after
participating in collaborative learning activities. It is predicated on the notion that education is a social activity in
which the students have in-depth conversations about the topic at hand and that it is through these conversations
that learning takes place.
The vast majority of us agree that we typically acquire more knowledge through teaching than we ever did from
studying on our own.The findings of research back up this concept as well. It was discovered that students who
offer and receive in-depth explanations regarding what they are learning and how they are learning had the highest
rates of retention and learning overall. It has been demonstrated that pupils who work together to complete a
project are able to get higher scores than those who work independently. Additionally, while working in groups, kids
who were already performing at lower levels of success showed considerable improvement.
Important guidelines for leadership and the development of
teams:
• Have a shared vision: There is a significant increase in the allure of any endeavor when there is a target to be
attained. Sharing the goal with your team members and helping them understand how vital their part is in attaining
the goal is the most effective method to get people on board with the project. This is true for every corporate
organization, which has a specific objective to accomplish.
• Make communication easier: this is the answer to any question, the method to open any door, and the best
strategy for persuading two individuals to see things from the other person's perspective. If a group maintains
open lines of communication, disagreements, and conflicts inside the group will be eliminated or reduced to a
minimum. It's natural for two people's ideas to clash occasionally, but if they have a good connection, they can
combine their thoughts to create something even more brilliant.
• Set an example for others to follow by leading from the front, which is the first and most crucial guideline of
leadership! A capable leader is one who, through his own actions, establishes high standards and serves as an
example for others to follow. To put together the perfect team, you need a strong leader.
If you are considering collaborating with another individual, the
following are some suggestions, pieces of advice, and potential
hazards that you should try to avoid:
1) The beginning of a successful collaboration is the moment you realize you want to work on a project together,
even if you don't yet know who you want to work with. Be aware that the technique known as "collaborative
thinking" is not the same as the process of thinking about your work for yourself alone. When working alone, one
must adopt a different frame of mind than when participating in a collaborative thought process, which is an
interactive activity that requires a higher level of communication.
2) Recognize that the act of collaborating results in the creation of new energy that is "larger than both of you."
This energy can be described as "greater than both of you." Incorporating the principles and strategies of
masterminding into your project will help it fly to new heights. There is a wealth of information regarding
masterminding that can be found on the internet, and the book "Think and Grow Rich" is the primary source for the
information presented here.
3) You need to have a clear vision or common goal, and you need to make sure that it's one that you both agree on.
Discuss any components of the idea you and your partner do not share to establish whether those aspects can be
incorporated into the plan or whether or not they must be eliminated. Your ability to collaborate will be hindered
and even derailed if you insist on pushing your agenda.
4) Your goals will come naturally from this overarching agreed vision. Be as detailed as possible, document your
thoughts, and strive to condense them as much as possible. Make a written statement of your mission, then
devise a strategy to achieve it. Include the responsibilities that fall on each of your shoulders and the roles that you
each play, and try to be as explicit as you possibly can.
5) Draft a legally binding agreement with one another and get it notarized. It is essential to be as precise as
possible on monetary and time commitments and the distribution of the advantages resulting from the project.
6) If you want your collaborative endeavor to be successful, you must schedule regular meetings and create a plan
for those meetings. Have goals that are detailed, clear, and include deadlines. Because we are so busy, it is
elementary to become distracted from the project's overall plan and lose concentration.
7) Acknowledge and respect without reservation the capabilities and techniques of labor utilized by the other
individual. However, do not expect the other person to work in the same manner as you. It will lead to a setting that
is fraught with friction and tension at all times. Leave your pride outside the door.
8) Make use of the specific abilities associated with that individual. Recognize the areas of skill each individual
possesses and be willing to step back and let the other person shine most naturally. Trust is essential.
9) You should not be ashamed to share your sentiments, doubts, and concerns; yet, you should also be careful not
to become "lost" in them. It is essential to have open and equal communication between those working together.
At the same time, you need to be aware of whether or not you are working together to share any anxieties you
might have. Your efforts will lose momentum if you allow your uncertainties to cause you to become "stuck
together."
10) Having a positive relationship with the individual you will be working with is an excellent way to kickstart any
endeavor. If your working relationship is based on friendship, mutual respect, trust, and a healthy dose of humor,
then the work you do together will be effortless and productive.
What kinds of outcomes might we expect from productive team building?
The process of forming a team could affect multiple levels. To begin, the individuals who make up the team might
have a heightened awareness of the influence that their actions have on the efficient operation of the group as a
whole. An increase in self-awareness may also result in different patterns of behavior. For instance, if the team
leader realizes that they do not involve other people in the leadership and decision-making processes, this
realization may incentivize the leader to adopt a more participatory management style.
Second, forming teams can assist individual members of the group in recognizing the existence of other and
perhaps more effective methods for how the team functions and completes its tasks. Third, forming a team could
affect the group's relationship with the rest of the business. For instance, a team member might quit making
excuses for their ineffective operations by pointing the finger at other elements of the organization as scapegoats.
In the end, there is a possibility of greater harmony among the units.
