3. MEHRANGARH FORT
Rising vertical and impregnable from a hill which is 125 metres above Jodhpur’s
skyline is the Mehrangarh Fort. This major stronghold is one of the most notorious
in India and is packed with history and legends. Mehrangarh Fort still bears the

Umaid Bhawan Palace was erected by Maharaja Umaid Singh in 1929 to fight a

hill. The palace was designed by HV Lanchester, a famed British mastermind, and
was completed in 16 times. Erected with sandstone and marble, the armature of the
palace is described as a mix of lndo-Saracenic, Classical Revival and Western Art
Deco styles. It's recognised as one of the largest private homes in the world and
also one of the further spectacular structures. It's the only palace erected in the
20th century.
6. CHAMUNDA MATAJI TEMPLE
Chamunda Mataji was Rao Jodha’s favourite goddess and so her hero was bought
to the Mehrangarh Fort. Therefore, the stronghold came a place of deification and
was turned into a tabernacle. Since also, locals have followed the culture of
worshipping Chamunda Mata. In fact, till date, the goddess remains the Isht Devi
(the espoused goddess) of Maharajas and the royal family.
7. RANISAR PADAMSAR
Located near the Fateh Pole in Mehrangarh, the Ranisar and Padmasar are
conterminous lakes that were constructed in the time 1459. Ranisar Lake was
erected on orders of Queen Jasmade Hadi, Rao Jodha's woman while Padmasar
Lake was ordered by Queen Padmini of Rao Ganga, son of Rana Sanga of Mewar.
8. JASWANT THADA
This milky white keepsake erected towards the end of the 19th century as a homage to
the leader Jaswant Singh is a huge sightseer magnet. Jaswant Singh, who ruled Jodhpur,
invested well in his state. He made attempts to bring down the position of crime, subdue
dacoits, erected railroads and astronomically worked on raising the frugality of Marwar.
Jaswant Thada is managed and looked after by the Mehrangarh Museum Trust (MMT) and
is open to public. The Trust is operating a Gallery in Jaswant Thada displaying pictures of
Marwar autocrats along with instructional didactics – the information serves as exposure
space to understand the history of Marwar through the Pictures. Its grounds serve as a
serene venue for morning musicales during music carnivals similar as the Rajasthan
International Folk Festival and the World Sacred Spirit Festival.
9. MANDORE
Towards the north of Jodhpur is the ancient capital of Marwar, Mandore. This area
