The city palace is located on the east bank of the Lake Pichola and several palaces are built in the
same complex. It was built over 400 years being constructed by several kings of the dynasty of Sisodia
clan.
It is built in ostentatious style. It is considered as a largest of its type in Rajasthan, and built on a hilltop
that gives a panoramic view of its surroundings, including several historical monuments such as Lake
Palace, Jag Mandir on another island in the lake, Jagmandir close to the palace, the Monsoon Palace on
the top of the overlooking hillock.
All the palaces were built over a long period from 1559 onwards, by 79th generation of Sisodia dynasty
or Sun dynasty. The palaces are facing east behind a lovely facade of 244 meters length and 30.4 meters
height.
6. It was served as a refuge to safe haven seekers on two different occasions. It is a three storey palace,
including these impressive architecture, Gul Mahal, which was built first as a refuge for Prince Khurram;
the elegant facade flanked by four carved statues of elephants on either side at the jetty entry on the
lake from the city; the Garden Courtyard and the Darikhana on its northern side; Bara Patharon ka
Mahal (palace of the 12 stones); the Zenana Mahal – a southern extension to the Gul Mahal; and the
Kunwar Pada ka Mahal.
On the top of Moti Magari or Pearl Hill which overlooked at the Fateh Sagar Lake in the city, has a
memorial statue of Maharana Pratap, a Rajput hero of the Sisodia dynasty, which has a bronze statue of
the Maharana astride with his favourite horse Chetak .
The Jagdish Temple was built in 1651, is a large Hindu temple in the middle of the city. It was
originally called Jagganath Rai . It is a major monument in the city, it attaches two storey mandapa, to
a double storey saandhara sanctum. The mandapa has another storey tucked within its pyramidal
samavarna (bellroof) while the hollow clustered spire over the sanctum contains two more, non
functional stories.
The Sahelion ki Bari lies in the northern part of the city, and foutain and kiosks, a lotus pool and
marble elephants. It was built by Rana Sangram Singh. It laid to fourty eight woman attendants who
accompanied a princess of the the city as a part of her dowry. The gardens are set below the
embankment of the Fateh Sagar Lake have beautiful lotus pools, marble pavilions and elephant- shaped
fountains.

Lake Palace was built by Maharana Jagat Singh II(1743 – 1746), therefore it was intially known as
Jag Niwas . It is facing east, with the thinking of allowing their inhabitants worship the Surya (Sun
god) at the crack of dawn. It is located on an island in Lake Pichola. Now, it is five star hotel. Besides it
is a hotel, you can stay there, have the delightful food in fully Rajwara style from the ancient times,
when you will sitting there you will see all the ancient and fascinating interior around you, you will feel
like that you are still in that era. After all its a rajawara hotel, its a conservation of rajputana, no matter
