What are District Designated Funds (DDFs) and how
can they be used? The rules for using DDFs might seem
complicated, so weโll help you understand how you can use
DDFs to pay for club or district projects, district grants, and
global grants. Learn what happens when DDFs are not spent
in a year, and how these rollover balances can be designated
to support areas such as the Rotary Peace Centers, PolioPlus,
or areas of focus.
2. โโฆโฆ The fact that many of our Rotary clubs have really
done things; the members have literally thrown off their
coats and pitched in, not with a view to obtaining credit
for themselves or for their clubs but for the purpose of
making this a better world in which to live.โ

โ The DRFC and District Governor are the most important officers in this process.
โ District budgeting priorities:

3. Rotary Peace Centers
โ Districtโs strategic plan and goals of clubs are important in allocation of DDF
โ DDF is allocated on a competitive basis
โ in surveys
โข 42% of districts require clubs to make contributions to TRF in order to receive DDF
โข 75% of Club Foundation Chairs are satisfied with their districtsโ requirements on using DDF
โข 78% are satisfied with the three year cycle of TRFโs SHARE system
โข ONLY 50% of districts start planning to use DDF the prior year

Editor's Notes
Letโs look at an example at how DDF is generated:
Three years ago, your district donated $1,000 to SHARE.
You will be eligible to receive the DDF portion of this donation. The DDF portion is 50 percent of the donation you made three years ago, or $500.
Of the remaining donation, $500 goes to the World Fund and $50 goes earmarked for to operating expenses.
Any unused DDF can be used next year.
ASK: How can you increase the amount of DDF available for future use?
Clubs wanted to do service projects quickly for a wide variety of things in block of money
The message is that the money can go to quickly spend on greatest need in their community โ they are incentivisd to use it quickly โ it doesnโt โrollโ
Districts get a 41 for 1 match on DDF but 50% match on x
So we can turn around DDF grant quickly
They are using more DDF to reach 30k min for global grants โ so this is increasing the average grant sixe and utilitxaiton of DDF
Annual program fund giving
DDF is only actuallyused when the grant is approved โ usually 90 days - question whether District know if the project is declined. The distrcit can see online what is happeningโฆโฆ

The chart shows the change in DDF roll forward from FY2010 through FY2015
With the New Grant Model launch, the rule of spending roll forward DDF have changed.
Roll forward DDF canโt be used for District Grant spending (but couldnโt be used for District Designated)
It can only be used for Global Grants, Polio or Endowment Fund
Some district doesnโt have sufficient DDF to fund a Global Grant min ($30K compare to MG of $XX but Districts are not having an issue)
