This will add an entirely new level to personal computers and gaming by including the olfactory experience. This is exciting new technology and a brand new market. Today I am here to tell you about ScentScape.

My presentation today is about ScentScape by Scent Sciences Corporation. My presentation will cover the following topics. What exactly is ScentScape and how does it work? What are the features and specifications for ScentScape. I will also cover how ScentScape can benefit the consumer as well as “Widgets R Us”. So what exactly is ScentScape. ScentScape by Scent Sciences Corporation adds the instant experience of scent to your pc or gaming console. Imagine emailing a family picture of your Thanksgiving Dinner. Along with the picture, you email the smell of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy. It is so realistic you could almost lick the screen. ScentScape enhances the senses for gaming and all sorts of media entertainment. It is even possible to design your own customized scents for home videos, movies, or other digital media. With ScentScape, the user can now experience sight, sound, and now smell. The possibilities are endless!
Here is how it works. ScentScapes is a digital scent delivery system that comes with a replaceable 20 scent cartridge. It sync’s and layers scent to increase or enhance what the user is watching. According to Scent Sciences, ScentScape simply plugs into the USB port of a PC, gaming console or other entertainment device. It also comes with ScentScape software, ScentScape scent cartridge, and user manual.
Now let’s look at its features. As I explained before the scent cartridge provides 20 basic scents. It lasts 200 hours or more depending on usage and personal settings. There is even a “volume control” to set strength. ScentScape is compact and currently is only available with Windows applications. However Apple support is coming soon as well as new scent technology enabling applications for YouTube, Facebook and other popular applications. I can just imagine what Angry Birds might smell like!
What about the cost. The ScentScape unit sells for $69.99. The ScentEditor retails for $19.99. This software allows you to enhance the viewing experience of your home movies by adding the scents you experienced while filming such things as birthday cake, flowers, fresh mowed grass, or the ocean. Using their ScentEditor software you can load in a video clip, and then attach scents to cue points in the video. The ScentScape cartridge also retails for $19.99. The software development kit (SDK) retails at $995.00. The SDK provides all the tools you need to be effective in scent enabling your applications. It includes the ScentScape devise, a master list of available scents, technical notes, reference manual, demo program, as well as all the basic do’s and don'ts of managing scented environments.
As you can see ScentScape is affordably priced. It is also easy to install and use. Imagine you own a bakery and you want to add the smell of fresh baked bread to your website. With the ScentScape software you can turn your website into a culinary delight for the senses. ScentScape also makes a great gift for the person who has everything. At such an reasonable price, “Widgets R Us” could sell a lot of these for Christmas this year.
So what else is on the market…a lot! One is the iSmell personal Scent Synthesizer by DigiScents. It connects to your PC through a serial or universal serial bus (USB) port. It can create thousands of everyday scents from a cartridge that contains 128 primary odors. These primary odors are mixed together to generate other smells that closely match many common natural and manmade odors. The iSmell PSS is still a prototype and not yet currently available for retail sale. The SENX scent devise is taking it a step further. This devise not only downloads scent but one can also print out flavors that can be tasted. This unit retails at about $269.00 and includes the SenxWare Scent Design Studio Software.
In conclusion digital scent technology is the next dimension for pc’s and gaming consoles. Future advancements can only lead to newer and better devises. Right now ScentScape is about the only affordable devise on the market. Everyone responds profoundly to scent. It enhances our experiences and connects us with our emotional memory.
