2. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells
• CAR T-cell therapy is used to treat certain blood cancers,
and it is being studied in the treatment of other types of
cancer
• A type of treatment in which a patient's T cells are
changed in the laboratory so they will attack cancer cells.
3. 1. T cells are collected from a patient.
2. T cells are reengineered in a laboratory. After this
reengineering, The T cells are known as “chimeric antigen
receptor (CAR) T cells.
3. The reengineered CAR T cells are then multiplied. .
4. the CAR T cells are thawed and then infused into the patient.
Basic Steps of CAR T cell
7. Side Effects of CAR T-Cell Therapy:
• Cytokine-Release Syndrome:
i. Nausea
ii. Fatigue
iii. Headache
iv. Chills
v. Fever
• Macrophage Activation Syndrome: This syndrome is a condition caused by the
excessive activation and multiplication of T cells and macrophages
• B-Cell Aplasia: CAR T-cell therapy targeting antigens found on the surface of B cells not
only destroys cancerous B cells but also normal B cells
• Anaphylaxis: Symptoms associated with anaphylaxis include hives, facial swelling, low
blood pressure and respiratory distress.
• Neurologic Toxicities: Common symptoms include language impairment (aphasia),
confusion, delirium, involuntary muscle twitching, hallucinations, or unresponsiveness.
Seizures have also been reported.
8. Future perspective:
Researchers are also trying to create CAR-T cells that they can
manually activate or deactivate, these are known as controllable
CARs, and most work by engineering an additional genetic
circuit in the CAR-T cell.
9. Conclusion:
Treatment using chimeric antigen receptor T cells (CAR-T cells)
represents a new era in medicine. It is likely to be the biggest
innovation in the pharmaceutical industry.
CAR-T cell therapy is revolutionizing the way cancers are treated,
by modifying the patient's own immune system to recognize, and
then attack, cancer cells.
