In 1991 I was approached by The Walt Disney Company to start up the UK Company as
part of world-wide distribution network for BVI. Ten years later the company would be No.1
film distributor and employ 45 staff.
I altered the workings of Walt Disney in the UK by persuading them not to bully, but instead
be eager partners in their business. This resulted in the biggest retail and media
promotions any film company, including the James Bond films, have ever had. Key
promotional partners that I persuaded to run film promotions for the first time on an
unprecedented scale include P&G, McDonalds, Powergen, Andrex, Volvo, Boots and
Woolworths. These partners spent over £50million over a 10 year period. Executive
produced 5 award winning movies. Won a BAFTA for services to the Film Industry.

Deputy Managing Director & Marketing Director.
This was an Independent production and film distribution company where I was Involved in
both marketing & production of films.
Utilised my regional expertise by ‘touring’ pictures on the road – I persuaded cinemas to
promote a film six months in advance of release for the first time; the film was When Harry
Met Sally – the campaign built up word of mouth and the result was the 3rd
biggest film of
the year : quite an achievement for an independent low budget film, with no stars in the UK
market, and released on a fraction of the budget of the majors
WarnerBrothers 1983 - 86
1986 Marketing Director.
1983 Advertising Director, working under the umbrella of Columbia / Emi /Warner
Poached from Lonsdales. Persuaded them of the importance of marketing over just
publicity. WB changed every office based on that template and became recognized as the
finest marketing company in the film business. Also persuaded them that their history was
their greatest asset and to prioritise this, including utilizing all their cartoon characters. This
move directly led to WB being the first studio to set up studio stores across the world. This
then led to an involvement in the UK film industry – setting up a marketing body
representative. AIM (All Industry Marketing) – made up of cinema
owners/distributor/agency representatives and film makers. From a nadir of 65million
cinema admissions. In 1985 the changes from my work led to admissions increasing to
over 170m in the following 20 years.

this account.
1980 Junior Media Planner / Senior Media Planner/ Account Director
Changed media planning by my knowledge of the geography of the country and work
experience in the Middlesbrough Evening Gazette print rooms. By building relationships
with local editors together with local knowledge I reduced the advertising rates for each of
