second class or equivalent grade.
If an applicant’s first language is

applications for admission must
be accompanied by a certificate
of competency in the English

stitution or programme. English
language requirements for non-
English-speaking students are a

minimum TOEFL score of 600, or
equivalent.
Each qualified applicant is invited
to complete an interview with the
Dean of RKC or nominee in person
or by telephone. The main purpose
of the interview is to select moti-
vated applicants with the ability
to benefit from and a solid commit-
ment to the programme.
In their efforts to create and sup-
port widening participation the
University of Cumbria and Robert
Kennedy College actively encour-
age applications from all ages, of
any gender, ethnic and/or social

Programme
Rationale and Philosophy
The programme has been shaped
to form what the programme team
believe to be a unique curriculum.
It allows students to:
-Gain a UK Higher Education In-
stitution accredited MA special-
izing in the field of International
Business Management;
-Study in their own time (what-
ever the time-zone in which they
live);
-Study at their own pace (within
the currency period of University
of Cumbria regulations for part-
time study);
-Attend a residential event in the
heart of the English Lake District,
with opportunities for further
travel in the UK if desired;
-Continue to live in their own
country/location without disrupt-
ing family life or work;
-Continue to pursue existing ca-
reer without a break.
The programme consists of the
standard 180 Level-7 credits that
constitute an NQF (UK National
Qualifications Framework) Mas-
ters award, the content being
informed by QAA (UK Quality
Assurance Agency) benchmark
statements for Business and Man-
agement Programmes. 60 credits
of the programme are provided by
a dissertation.

There are no average courses
within our MA in International
Business Management pro-
gramme. We are committed to
providing an exceptional learning
experience, and there is no bet-
ter way to achieve this aim than
with outstanding courses. They
have been carefully crafted by
experienced professors and are all
intended to make you a more suc-
cessful and efficient manager.
There are no old-fashioned exams.
Instead, you are given real-life
case studies to work on and es-
says to write which allow you to
think critically about your com-
pany and your own career. All this
might seem too glossy but there is
one catch: we do not accept aver-
age candidates. Only individuals
as outstanding as our values are
accepted for admission to Robert
Kennedy College.
Module Descriptions
Induction (not-for-credit module)
A not-for-credit induction mod-
ule will be the starting point of
the programme. The induction
process is designed to famil-
iarise you with the programme
design, requirements and re-
sources, as well as with the way
online interaction, learning and
grading will take place. After the
induction you should be famil-
iar with academic life, including
academic writing, library ser-
vices and library access, Onli-
neCampus access, and academic
support services.
Organizational Behaviour
The way people are managed with-
in organisations plays a paramount
role in corporate success. In a fast
changing organizational landscape,
we take into account impacting
factors like social, technological,
economic, environmental, political
and legal considerations.
With a variety of real-life case
studies, you will be asked to
make decisions, which will in-
evitably influence the (work) life
of your employees. These are,
of course, backed by the core
taught concepts, which feature
group dynamics, motivation and
leadership, group behaviour,
communication, power, conflict
and prejudice in the workspace,
organizational culture and how to
manage and understand change
within an organization.
This course is led by Prof. Ben-
11
edicta Lusk, an MBA graduate
of the Peter F. Drucker School of
Management.
International Marketing and
Business Environment
You will reinvent the airline busi-
ness, redefine the boundaries of
retailing, manage the sales of an
online computer megastore, and
learn how to focus on your cus-
tomer. Seems like a bold predic-
tion but it is just the content of
International Marketing and Busi-
ness Environment directed by
marketing management extraordi-
naire: Professor Freddy Nager.
The module aims to develop your
ability in applying knowledge and
understanding of marketing issues
in a range of international busi-
ness contexts and to enable you to
evaluate marketing practice to be
effective in dealing with marketing
professionals in context.
Furthermore, it will prepare you
for and/or build on a career in
business or business research by
developing marketing skills and
enhancing llifelong learning skills.
Financial Management
(elective module)
Business is about profit, and there
can only be sustainable with a
proper knowledge of effective
financial management.
Oxford and Harvard Business
School graduate Prof. David Duffill
will expand and reinforce your
knowledge of financial account-
ing, management accounts, budg-
eting and financing.
The course leader is not just
crunching numbers. He will link
each topic to real financial situa-
tions where you, as the manager
in chief, have to assess the finan-
cial performance of successful
corporations, and develop sharp
analytical skills with tools like
decision tree analysis.
Financial Management is about
successful financial results. At
the end of this course you will not
only know the basics, but you will
be in the position to master every
component of superior financial
management and analysis.
Microeconomics
of Competitiveness
(elective module held
in cooperation
with the Harvard
Business School)
In cooperation with the Institute
of Strategy and Competitiveness
of the Harvard Business School,
12
Robert Kennedy College is offer-
ing this outstanding course de-
signed by Professor Michael Por-
ter, the Bishop William Lawrence
University Professor at Harvard
Business School and the leading
authority on corporate strategy
and competitiveness.
Taught by Robert Kennedy College
Deputy Dean and Harvard Business
School MBA graduate Professor
David Duffill, this course explores
the determinants of national and
regional competitiveness building
from the perspective of firms, clus-
ters, sub-national units, nations,
and groups of neighbouring coun-
tries. The course is concerned not
only with government policy, but
with the roles that firms, industry
associations, universities and other
institutions play in competitive-
ness. It takes examples from both
advanced and developing econo-
mies, and addresses competitive-
ness at multiple levels.
Students who take this elective
have access to the exclusive video
lecture of Professor Porter and
are required to attend the resi-
dential session in Zürich, Switzer-
land.
Information Management
(elective Module)
Cloud Computing, Linux and Open
Source Software, Social Media.
These are only few of the new tech-
nological innovations and, at the
same time, challenges presented to
the managers of tomorrow.
This module aims to enable you
to develop a conceptual and
comprehensive understanding
of the manager’s role in relation
to the leading of the effective
management and use of informa-
tion, information technology and
information systems and to apply
these within an organizational/
strategic context.
Money Management
(elective module)
Dr. David Costa, Dean of Robert
Kennedy College, a regular guest
on CNBC Television and Bloomb-
erg Television and the author of
the “Portable Private Banker”, and
Dr. Roy Damary will guide you
through a fascinating journey in
the field of money management.
The successful management of fi-
nancial assets, be they of an indi-
vidual, a small business or a large
corporation demands a knowledge
of financial markets, how they
operate, what instruments and
investment vehicles are available,
and what macro-economic forces
are acting upon them. This module
is designed to provide you with
a broad understanding of finan-
cial markets (as distinct from a
narrow specialist approach) but
with sufficient details of their
many components so that you
may make your own investment
decisions and interact with your
specialist advisers.
Particular attention will be given
to portfolio composition and man-
agement through ETF (Exchange
Traded Funds), Mutual Funds and
other innovative vehicles like
structured products. Students
attending this class will be able
to access the Morningstar Invest-
ment Research Library and run a
simulated portfolio through the
OnlineCampus Trading platform.

Trans-national Leadership,
Ethics and Sustainability
(mandatory one-week residency
in Cumbria, England)
Held in the idyllic setting of the
British Lake District, this course
aims to examine the nature of
leadership and in particular its
role in the development of ethical
sustainable business and busi-
ness practices.
University of Cumbria faculty
will guide you in the daily classes
enriched by contemporary case
studies and teamwork in this in-
novative and unique topic.
Strategic Management
Do you really think strategically?
Is your strategy sustainable and
well formulated? How would you
implement your newly formulated
strategy?
As you start on this course, you
might just discover that you
didn’t really know the answers to
these questions. Not only will you
learn about strategy formulation
context, content, and its effec-
tive implementation, you will also
be studying the latest business
strategies from Harvard Business
School case studies like those of
Facebook, Kellogg, and Google, as
well as traditional analytical tools
like Porter’s Five Forces model,
which will serve as a platform for
your endeavours at innovative
thinking.
As they say, “There is only one
thing worse than no strategy:
a badly formulated or executed
strategy.”
This being the last course of your
MBA, we will go the extra mile to
ensure your complete understand-
ing of effective, innovative and
sustainable business strategies.
14

  • 8. 8 Admission Requirements Candidates would normally be expected to hold a UK Bachelor de- gree or equivalent from an accred- ited or approved college or univer- sity, normally with at least a lower second class or equivalent grade. If an applicant’s first language is not English he/she must be able to demonstrate oral and written fluency in English. Working or studying in an English-speaking environment will usually be suf- ficient to demonstrate an ac- ceptable competence. Otherwise, applications for admission must be accompanied by a certificate of competency in the English language from a recognized in- stitution or programme. English language requirements for non- English-speaking students are a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or minimum TOEFL score of 600, or equivalent. Each qualified applicant is invited to complete an interview with the Dean of RKC or nominee in person or by telephone. The main purpose of the interview is to select moti- vated applicants with the ability to benefit from and a solid commit- ment to the programme. In their efforts to create and sup- port widening participation the University of Cumbria and Robert Kennedy College actively encour- age applications from all ages, of any gender, ethnic and/or social background and from students with disabilities. Programme Rationale and Philosophy The programme has been shaped to form what the programme team believe to be a unique curriculum. It allows students to: -Gain a UK Higher Education In- stitution accredited MA special- izing in the field of International Business Management; -Study in their own time (what- ever the time-zone in which they live); -Study at their own pace (within the currency period of University of Cumbria regulations for part- time study); -Attend a residential event in the heart of the English Lake District, with opportunities for further travel in the UK if desired; -Continue to live in their own country/location without disrupt- ing family life or work; -Continue to pursue existing ca- reer without a break. The programme consists of the standard 180 Level-7 credits that constitute an NQF (UK National Qualifications Framework) Mas- ters award, the content being informed by QAA (UK Quality Assurance Agency) benchmark statements for Business and Man- agement Programmes. 60 credits of the programme are provided by a dissertation.
  • 9. 9 Progamme Outline Induction The scheme has been designed to meet the aims of the online MA in a flexible manner and can be tailored to the individual prefer- ences of each student. The MA in International Business Manage- ment requires you to complete six courses plus a final dissertation. The programme consists of the following modules: This is the first module of the pro- gramme which gives an orienta- tion to the course and the online learning style. It does not carry credits, and students are encour- aged to go through the material in this module at their own pace and get accustomed to the online medium. Stage 1 Six taught modules (120 credits) 2 core modules (mandatory) Organizational Behaviour International Marketing and Busi- ness Environment 2 Modules from the available electives: Money Management OR Financial Management OR Information Management OR Microeconomics of Competi- tiveness (held in cooperation with the Harvard Business School with a mandatory residency in Zürich, Switzerland. This second residency is only required for those students who choose this module as an elective.) 1 Residential module (mandatory) Trans-national Leadership, Ethics and Sustainability Capstone (mandatory) Strategic Management Stage 2 Individual dissertation (60 credits) Dissertation work Awarded Exit Points As an exit qualification, the Post Graduate Certificate in Manage- ment Studies is awarded to can- didates who have completed 60 credits (three modules), while the Diploma in Management Studies is awarded to candidates who have completed 120 credits (all six modules, including the residency) but have been unable to complete the dissertation. Students who achieve the full 180 credits, and have successfully completed the dissertation, exit with the award of Master of Arts in International Business Management.
  • 10. 10 There are no average courses within our MA in International Business Management pro- gramme. We are committed to providing an exceptional learning experience, and there is no bet- ter way to achieve this aim than with outstanding courses. They have been carefully crafted by experienced professors and are all intended to make you a more suc- cessful and efficient manager. There are no old-fashioned exams.
