Established in the mid-1960s, CARF International, originally the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities,
acts as an independent and nonprofit certifier of health service institutions. The institutions so certified by CARF include
those dedicated to aging, behavioral issues, child services, and rehabilitation. As of this year, many tens of thousands of
programs and establishments located throughout the world hold CARF certification.
Organizations seeking CARF accreditation must first reach a number of important benchmarks, among them a
personalized focus on each individual served, the monitoring of outcomes, and the implementation of a rigorous set of
standards. In addition to becoming a CARF-certified provider, which is a competitive advantage in itself, member
