Ministry of Industry to visit TenarisSPIJ mill
Cilegon, Indonesia, May 30, 2011 – The Republic of Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Industry, Prof.
Dr. Ir. Alex S. W. Retraubun M.Sc., and the Director of Metal Industry, Ir. I Gusti Putu
Suryawirawan, will visit Tenaris’s main facility in Indonesia, PT. Seamless Pipe Indonesia Jaya
(SPIJ) in Cilegon, West Jaya, today, accompanied by Tenaris’s Southeast Asia Regional Manager,
Marcelo Ranieri and Country Manager Indonesia, Lucio Costarrosa, along with other members of
the local management team.
During the visit, officials will be introduced to the Tenaris’s operations in Indonesia, the
company’s high standards in terms of quality, health, safety and environment, its investment
plan, workforce development and local content.
“Tenaris is investing in a new production line in Cilegon by bringing the latest technology in
premium joint connections to Indonesia. Our Dopeless® technology, which is a dry, multi-
functional coating applied in a controlled, industrial environment to ensure consistent quality
and reliability and enhanced corrosion protection, provides distinct environmental and
operational advantages for a variety of onshore and offshore environments. This is our latest
investment that we are pleased to introduce to the Ministry of Industry.”, said Lucio Costarrosa.
The site visit by the Ministry of Industry shows Tenaris’s commitment to sustainable growth in
Indonesia and its dedication to its operations and investments in Indonesia. While the industry
recognizes that the Ministry still faces major challenges, including price control, the visit also
demonstrates the Ministry’s continued support in protecting the market through local industry
defense actions and regulations.
Tenaris is a leading global supplier of steel tubes and related services for the world’s energy
industry and certain other industrial applications. Tenaris’s presence in Indonesia started in 1996
when it signed an agreement with PT. Seamless Pipe Indonesia Jaya (SPIJ) and in 2009 the alliance
led to full integration. SPIJ’s local content exceeded 40% (TKDN + BMP) and is referred by MIGAS in
Buku Apresiasi Produk Dalam Negeri. Tenaris has more than 600 employees in Indonesia working
in its two threading facilities, commercial office and service center.
