2. Red Lion Fish Habitat
Scientific Name – Pterois Volitans
Two lion fish are contained in a 30 gallon tank in the
Richard’s Awesome Aquarium Building, in the tank
there is coral and large rocks for the fish’s habitat.
There are also small rocks at the bottom of the tank.
3. Maintenance and Medical
Treatment
The fish are to be removed from the tank everyday
after zoo closing at 5:00 PM. While the fish are out of
the tank, the tank is to be cleaned. Every Sunday, the
water in the tank should be replaced. While the fish
are out of the tank while it is being cleaned, each fish
is to be placed in a 5 gallon holding tank where the fish
are observed to note any unusual behavior that may
indicate the fish being unhealthy. Water is tested for
nitrogen levels, Potassium levels and PH to ensure that
the fish is healthy. The holding tank should be
cleaned once a week.
4. Handicap and Severe Weather
There is a wheel chair ramp leading to the aquarium
building, making the aquarium handicap accessible.
There is also an elevator in the aquarium which makes
the second floor of the aquarium accessible to the
handicapped.
The aquarium building has been hurricane proofed, so
it can withstand severe weather. The are also large
tanks in the basement of the aquarium that the fish
can be transported to in order to ensure there safety
during serve weather
5. Feeding
Everyday at 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM the fish are to be fed
a combination of mashed squid and shrimp
6. Safe Public Viewing
The aquarium has air conditioning and heat to ensure
the comfort of zoo guest
The aquarium of the tank is composed of doubled
pained bullet proof glass to protect the fish and the
guest from any unexpected interaction.
7. Asian Elephant
Scientific Name: Elephas Maximus
The habitat of the Asian Elephant is 200 yards by 100 yards,
with trees and a watering hole. The habitat is enclosed by a
25ft stainless steel fence. The viewing area for zoo guest is
10 feet away from the habitat, and there is a second
stainless steel fence between the viewing area and the
habitat to ensure public safety. The viewing area also has a
wheel chair ramp to make it handicap accessible. In the
habitat, directly in front of the public viewing area, food
will be placed for the elephants to eat. The food consist of
grasses, bamboo, and fruit. The food should be
replenished six times a day.
9. Maintenance
The habitat should cleaned of elephant waste every 3
hours. The water in the watering hole should be
replenished every night. The trees should be watered
twice a day, once at 8:00 AM and again at 6:30 PM
10. Medical Treatment and Serve
Weather
Every night the elephants are moved into a shed near the
North Eastern portion of the habitat. The building had 3
separate areas for each elephant that lives in the habitat.
When the elephants are in the shed, they are cleaned and
examined by a team of three veterinarians to ensure they
are in good health. They are also injected with highly
concentrated vitamins once a week to ensure they are
getting all the vitamins they need. During times of serve
weather, the elephants are moved into the shed, which has
been hurricane proofed. They can also be moved into the
basement of the shed that is capable of holding all 3
elephants and has food and water.
