In over 26 years of experience, the author has held several technical and managerial roles in telecommunications and logistics operations. They specialized in satellite connectivity and developed telecom networks for banks in Venezuela. Later while at DHL, they helped modernize telecom infrastructure, learned database systems, and became IT Manager. They then managed the logistics unit, growing sales significantly and overseeing a new facility. Further experience included domestic business development, network design, and promotions to Nation Operations Manager and Service Director, consolidating customs operations and improving cost control and service metrics.
1. Executive Summary
In total I have 26 years of working experience. My early years were in the area of technology in telecommunications area,
I developed my career in Telecommunications with a specialization in Satellite Connectivity and Microwave equipments. I
was trained in the United States (California and Washington - Virginia in 1990). In that year I was promoted as Technical
Manager and I was responsible for Telecommunications Expansion for the bank sector in Venezuela and coordinated and
installed more than 250 VSAT (very small antenna terminal) countrywide and two big HUB Teleport equipment
connection with INTELSAT in Venezuela. I also participate in the first private voice satellite connection in Venezuela. This
experience allowed me to have more knowledge logistics, handling inventories facilities and administrative management.
In that opportunity I was in charge of 80 people countrywide.
1992 I was hired as an external full time provider in DHL Venezuela with the responsibility to develop and install the
Network Telecommunications (Voice and Data) between DHL headquarters in Caracas and the rest of the country. Also I
was promoted together with Richard Hamel the technology change in DHL Venezuela. I started the whole process Quality
and Service of Maintenance of the existing infrastructure, during these years I also learned about administration UNIX
Operating System and also got skill INFORMIX database language. In 1998 I reached the position of IT Manager in DHL VE
and remained there for providing technological support in different database applications and teleprocess for Venezuela,
Colombia and Ecuador.
Later in 1999, I managed the IT Department and accept the challenge to manage the Logistics Unit at DHL called SPC
“Express Part Logistics Unit”. This experience of warehouse inventory management allowed me to learn more about the
business (Commercial, operations and administration). The main goal during this experience was to develop the unit in
operations and the commercial department and develop my team for support the Logistics Unit. At the end, I left this
unit with an important and solid 468% growth in sales and a new SPC facility with 10000 Square Meters and got
customers like HP, UNISYS , DELL, CANTV, Johnson & Johnson and Movilnet . This experience in logistics opened at the
end of year 2000 the opportunity to become an operations manager position in the Caracas station together with the
logistics and IT position.
During those years I got experience in many areas that allowed me to develop and consolidate a team in IT & Logistic
business.
During 2001 and 2002 I learned more about operations and started a big reorganization in OPS. I put in practice control
reports, productivity measurements and also created a service culture in the operations department. I think the
experience in OPS allowed the business to growth and the expand the Domestic Business in Venezuela. In fact in 2002 I
worked with the General Manager and the Commercial Director in to develop the Domestic Business, I was responsible
for designing the Air and Ground Domestic Network and the financial Control Cost of all operations. In 2003 I was
promote the position of Nation OPS Manager and started my experience in Gateway and Customs. During the following
years in this positions many goals were reached such as automation the courier operation in Caracas, consolidation of the
air - ground network operations, started new agents operations countrywide, move the operations in Barcelona,
Maracaibo, Valencia and Barquisimeto to a new facilities, more structure, introduce the courier score card compensation
and develop the career plan for couriers and rest of the operations areas. At the end 2009 I reached the position such of
Service Director in this role all Customs and Gateway operations reported directly to me. In this positions I also
consolidated all Cost Control in OPS and worked in many Deep Dives Analysis and Budget with excellent results, moved
the export operations in order to get stable and secure operations in MIQ and re-organized the Customs Structure and
the Lobby with the government authorities, I also reached an excellent performance in service and productivity as well.
Finally in 2014 I coordinated and developed the Domestic Business Operations Downsizing without impacts with the labor
law.
