Onlyreal landareas onEarth are eligibleforaLocation Type (nofictional places,bodiesof water,or

LocationType is assignedonlytopresent-daylocations;the displaycannotaccommodate historical
names(SovietUnion,Rhodesia, Constantinople,etc.). Whensuchnamesare used askeywords,the

Country
Everydisplaylocationshouldincludea“Country”(as definedbelow) asthe lastor onlyitem;nothing
shouldappearafterit.
Countrymore or lesscorrespondstothe listthat can be foundat the CIA WorldFactbook
(https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html),whichaccountsforall
landareas of the world.It includes:
 Sovereign andUN membernations(USA, France,Denmark)
 Dependentterritories(PuertoRico,FrenchPolynesia,Greenland)
 Areasthat are disputed(WestBank,Kosovo) orthathave no recognizedgovernment
(Antarctica)
Exceptionscanbe made.For example,currentlyVaticanCity (asovereignnation) walksuptoItaly,soit
has to be excludedfromthe Countrygroup(itstype is Otherinstead).Also,we are includingNagorno-

towns)
Unlike the otherLocationTypes,the Citylistwill continue togrow withoutlimit.
Citiesnormally are the smallestunitthatcan be includedin the display,exceptfora few special cases

Other
“Other”consistsof additional conceptsthathave beenselectedforinclusioninthe displaylocationbut
