The LadyMex (Lady Mechanics) Workshop is a monthly workshop held in Antigua and Barbuda that teaches women the basics of automotive care and maintenance. It aims to empower women by providing a safe space to ask questions, gain confidence in speaking to mechanics, and feel empowered as vehicle owners. The workshops cover topics like the owner's manual, fluids, tires, and what to do in emergencies. They are led by members of the Lady Horsepower Farm Drag Racing Team and seek to challenge views of women in the automotive industry. Sponsorship packages are available starting at $500 XCD and provide various marketing benefits to sponsors.

Summary
The LadyMex (Lady Mechanics) Workshop is an interactive and fun way to learn all about your car,
how to talk to mechanics and what to do in the event of an emergency. We provide a safe space
for women to:
ask any questions they may have about their car,
release the shame of being an uneducated car owner and gain empowerment, and
educate women to become more confident drivers.
The following topics are on the agenda to be discussed. They are as follows:
• The Owner’s Manual
• Engine oil
• Tires and wheels
• Brake Fluid, Power Steering Fluid and Transmission Fluid
• Washer Fluid and Engine Coolant
• Battery/Jump Staring
The facilitators, Jodi-ann Joseph and Renée Ambrose are members of the Lady Horsepower Farm
Drag Racing Team, which is the Caribbean’s 1st All-Female Drag Racing Team. With this LadyMex
(Lady Mechanics) Workshop initiative, in Antigua and Barbuda, they seek to challenge the distorted
views of society as it relates to women in the automotive industry.
During the LadyMex Workshop, we will be giving you the "Basics from our #LadyMex" on how to carry
out Minor tasks to prevent Major repairs. We will also drop a few tips...(and no, not French tips).
About our LADYMEX (Lady Mechanics)
Jodi-ann Joseph is a past student of the Christ the King High School. After graduating, she
attended the Antigua State College where she majored in Automotive Engineering and
graduated with passes in the City and Guilds examination. She furthered her studies at the
Aviron Technical Institute in Montreal, Canada. There, she completed Automobile
Mechanic and General Welding Courses where she was Awarded one of Montreal's Top
Fifty (50) Automotive Students and was the only female that studied Automobile
Mechanics at that time. Currently, at the age of 24, Jodi-ann is the Supervisor of the
Service Center at Automotive Art Antigua.
Renée Ambrose graduated from the Antigua Girls’ High School. Her
love for Engineering led her to the Antigua State College Engineering Department
where she graduated and obtained a Diploma in Automotive Engineering. The last leg
of her studies led her to the Art Williams and Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering
School in Guyana, where she studied Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering and
attained her Guyana Civil Aviation Authority Engineering License. Renée is currently
employed at LIAT 1974 Ltd. as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician in Antigua.
