Redeeming Our Communities (ROC) is a national charity founded in 2004 that works to transform communities through strategic partnerships between community groups, agencies, and volunteers. This approach has reduced crime, loneliness, and improved community cohesion across the UK. ROC brings groups together for practical on-the-ground change and enables thousands of volunteers to better serve community needs. ROC operates over 150 partnership projects and relocated its headquarters in 2014 to further expand its work.

ROC's 150 UK community projects
1. Redeeming Our Communities is a national charity founded in 2004 with over
150 partnership projects throughout the UK. The charity’s main aim is to bring
about community transformation by creating strategic partnerships which
open up opportunities for crime and disorder reduction and improved
community cohesion. This partnership approach has seen crime and
anti-social behaviour fall, reduced loneliness and brought fresh hope brought
to communities across the UK, urban and rural alike.
ROC brings together community groups, such as; the Police, the Fire service,
Local Authorities, voluntary agencies, schools, and churches/
faith-based groups to encourage them to work together in positive
partnerships for practical ‘on the ground’ change. As a result, statutory
agencies have improved access to the support of community/church groups,
and thousands of volunteers are enabled to better serve the needs of their
community. This idea is proving to be even more valuable in the light of the
current economic climate.
Debra Green the founder and Director of ROC received an OBE in 2012 in
recognition of the work and services to community cohesion.

About Redeeming Our Communities (ROC)
The Fuse – New ROC HQ
In December 2013 we started to explore the possibility of taking on The
Fuse youth and Community Centre in Partington. We moved our ROC HQ
and Manchester-based staff team there on July 29
th
2014. We now have 24
new projects running from our building. Exciting new developments have
led us into partnership with the BBC who have filmed a new Cbeebies
programme here – Let’s Go Club.

2. ROC's Projects
ROC Cafe...
A ROC Café – Where young people come first - is a multi-agency supported
youth drop in project which provides healthy diversionary activities for
young people with a track record of reducing anti-social behaviour and
raising the aspirations of young people.
ROC Care...
ROC Care – Befriending older people - provides a visitor and social activities
which improves quality of life for those who might otherwise never leave their
home. One million people over the age of 65 say they have not spoken to
another person for over a month and TV is their only company. The project
receives referrals from Age UK, social services, NHS, housing associations,
local GP’s. Referrals are often those over the age of 70 who are observed to be
lonely and isolated. It can include a whole range of ideas including; meals,
giving lifts, visiting, social events, shopping, trips out, or something as simple
as a phone call once per week.
ROC Family Mentoring…
The ROC Family Mentors project is delivered in partnership with local churches,
local councils and the police. Family Mentors are matched with families and
receive dedicated help and support for a period of 6-12 months, providing a great
opportunity to support families in real need of help. It provides opportunity for
volunteers to receive nationally recognised training accredited by the
‘Mentoring & Befriending Foundation’, and links families with the support from the
statutory agencies.
3. ROC Conversation...
A ROC Conversation – A community consultation with results -
It aims to bring together members of the local community, including
representatives from community groups, Police Service, Fire and Rescue,
NHS, local authority, MPs, Housing Associations, churches and faith based
groups, Universities, Colleges and schools and many other agencies. We
have developed a successful model with over 150 consultations already
under taken and have the expertise to offer agencies who wish to
engage with their local community. Following the event each participant
receives a detailed report and we agree an action plan to set up projects
which meet social needs identified at the consultation..
ROC Restore...
ROC Restore – Community-led restorative justice - is a form of Restorative
Justice (RJ) undertaken by community members in facilitated meetings.
The aim is to bring together victims and perpetrators of low level crime,
anti-social behaviour and nuisance in a meeting where trained volunteers
use restorative or reparative approaches to agree on a course of action for
those involved.
ROC Mentors...
ROC Mentors - Supporting and developing young people - offers support to
young people who face many challenges in society today.
Particularly providing the right support as they mature and make the transition
into adulthood, which is critical to the development of stable community life.
4. ROC Assist…
ROC Assist - providing practical assistance within the community - The
project works with local housing associations, social services and other
statutory organisations to deliver practical help to those who are unable to
maintain their social housing properties. Jobs that are undertaken include:
maintenance work, painting and decorating, gardening, minor repairs,
collecting rubbish, moving, help with hoarding and even dog walking.
ROC Centre...
A ROC Centre – a community hub - is a multi-agency led community centre
which provides activities and a safe meeting place for people of all ages in
a community. The type of projects depend on local needs and a ROC
Centre has a minimum of 4 or more projects under one roof. This concept
works well in areas where there are few or no community meeting places
and social activity provision available. A ROC Centre places a high value on
partnership work between local community groups, churches, Police
Service, Fire and Rescue, local authority, schools, housing association and
other community-based organisations to provide services for all ages with
an aim of improving community well-being.
