3. The hospitality industry is one we continue to passionately
support at Systemagic, and we’ve been fortunate to work with
more beautiful properties and exciting projects over the past
12 months. We have also welcomed many new hospitality
clients to our portfolio, including the stunning Homewood
and The Bird, Bath (both part of the Kaleidoscope Collection
of hotels) and the fantastic recently refurbished Bath Arms by
Longleat.
Having worked with the industry for 21 years, it is clear to
me that the biggest IT challenges continue to be providing
the connectivity and bandwidth that guests now expect.
Corporate hire guests now have high expectations around
security and leisure guests demand fast internet speeds,
blanket coverage and are bringing more and more devices
with them. When monitoring a recent conference at a
client, we noticed that 60 delegates had connected over 190
devices between them to the wifi.
As a service provider, my team and I at Systemagic continue
to focus on delivering consistent customer service, looking
after the people not just the tech, and remain passionate
about 30 day terms for as many services as possible. I’m
so proud of the helpdesk for delivery industry-leading
response and resolution times for another year, and this has
been recognised with 100% customer retention across our
hospitality client base, even where sales and acquisitions
have been made.

NO.15 GREAT
PULTENEY?
Located on one of the most exclusive streets in
Bath, former temperance hotel, The Carfax, has
been completely revamped into a luxury boutique
townhouse, No.15 Great Pulteney.
The project entailed opening a boutique hotel and
Spa on Great Pulteney Street in Bath; the hotel has
40 guest rooms, restaurant, cocktail bar, separate
coach house and private dining rooms. Timelines
were tight and challenges included bringing modern
technology into a traditional Georgian infrastructure
with Grade 1 restrictions.
THE CHALLENGE
Systemagic were put in place to project manage
the refurb. This included liaising with suppliers and
contractors then establishing the requirements
needed to provide all the technology that a modern
hotel requires to run smoothly and efficiently.
THE SOLUTION
Systemagic were engaged to implement a
faultless system, provide extremely fast fibre
internet and carry out data cabling throughout
No.15 Great Pulteney. We know that on average a
short term guest will bring 3 devices into a hotel,
therefore Systemagic ensured each room had high
speed internet access and strong wifi was readily
available in every area of the hotel. Dedicated fiber
internet was also installed All of this was provided
with guest satisfaction being key.

WHATLEY
MANOR?
In the Cotswold countryside near Malmesbury you
will find Whatley Manor Hotel & Spa, a 5* property
and member of Relais & Châteaux and Pride of
Member.
Set in 12 acres of English country gardens Whatley
Manor boasts 12 opulent rooms and 11 Suites. With
three restaurants including – the Michelin starred
restaurant The Dining Room, Grey’s Brasserie and
The Green Room. Facilities include a spa that offers
luxurious treatments, a hydrotherapy pool, aromatic
thermal suites, and a sauna.
THE CHALLENGE
Award winning hotelier Sue Williams sought
Systemagic out having worked with us previously
at The Bath Priory to lend our support to Whatley
Manor. Their previous IT system was slow,
outdated and didn’t reflect that of a 5* property.
We were able to identify various areas that needed
modernising throughout the hotel and spa, all in an
effort to improve the guest experience and ensure
the IT systems supported the staff in delivering
a 5* service. This included fixing issues with the
wifi system’s coverage and reliability, addressing
IT security and networking and ensuring servers
were capable of running the hotel’s software
systems.
Our helpdesk support service was required to
provide support to staff who wanted to see an
increase in response and resolution times, which
further allowed them to deliver service to exceed
their guests’ expectations.
THE SOLUTION
Our team installed a superfast dedicated fibre
line which increased Whatley’s internet speeds
by over 50x the previous speed. This has
been coupled with a new secure, strong and
stable enterprise grade wifi system which has
significantly improved coverage. Whatley’s new
system ensures corporate guests booking the
board room and meeting areas can be confident in
the IT systems throughout.
For leisure guests, the internet speed and stronger
wifi allows ultrafast download speeds, the
streaming of HD video and fast access to data.

7. THE SOLUTION
We replaced all network switches throughout
the hotel complex and replaced their 5 outdated
servers running different software systems to 1
physical and 4 virtual servers, all running the latest
operating system and saving significant amount
of power – which ultimately saves money as well
as the environment.
All computers have been replaced with modern,
low power, devices running Windows 10 and able
to provide staff with the performance and security
they need.
As well as their infrastructure updates our team of
friendly helpdesk technicians are available round
the clock to provide support as and when the team
at Whatley require assistance.

8. WHO ARE
COMBE GROVE?
Combe Grove is an 18th Century manor house
set in a 64 acre estate, perched on a hilltop on the
edge of the city of Bath. The hotel is owned by The
Elmhurst Foundation, a charity that is transforming
the site into a centre for work-based learning with
a range of high quality, enhanced apprenticeships.
Combe Grove boasts a wellness centre and spa
as well as resturant facilities and stunning views
across Bath.
THE CHALLENGE
Our client understood the importance of having a
faster Internet connection throughout the property.
They recognised that a quicker connection would
not only allow their staff to work more efficently
but it would also increase guest satisfaction.
Systemagic were put in place to implement a
connectivity solution that fit the demand of a busy
hotel and Spa.
Combe Grove had an existing Lased Line with
Virgin direct however our team were instructed to
implement an improved system in which we were
able to manage in-house allowing all IT services to
be supported under one roof.
As well as their connectivity needs, Combe Grove
desperately needed to refresh their low warranty,
low spec servers that were running on old
operating systems.
A major refurb project was taking place at the
properties conference centre with the main room,
now called the Oak Room in which is used as a
yoga studio. Systemagic were engaged to provide
a networking and wifi solution throughout.

9. THE SOLUTION
Our team understood the importance of
implemening a quality solution for Combe Groves
data-connectivity concerns. In response to the
hotels slow Internet issues, we replaced their
outdated Leased Line giving them a brand new
dedicated connection that resulted in faster
Internet speeds by 100%.
Combe Groves updated Leased Line is now fully
managed by Systemagic allowing our helpdesk
support service to be on hand at all times to
provide quick-time response in the event of any
disruption.
We replaced four old servers, installing one
modern, high-spec server running virtual servers
with the latest operating system. Virtulising the
server on-site offers numerous benefits such as
increasing IT productivity, minimising downtime
and providing greater business continuinity.
Finally, we carried out all networking and Wifi
solutions throughout the Oak Room. Systemagic
provided the latest Enterprise Grade Wifi Access
Points to ensure Combe Grove have robust
connectivity, security and resilience throughout
the yoga studio and conference centre.

We hear from so many businesses that they’d
love to change their IT service provider but are
worried that the process will be painful. Those
who do move find that the experience is quite the
opposite, but it’s still a major consideration for any
business who is reviewing their IT support and one
that has to be considered carefully.

odd case where the incumbent supplier aren’t fully
cooperative we have tools and resources to help
us find everything we need. You should never feel
trapped or hamstrung by your IT provider and the
technical discovery is our responsibility, not yours.
Our 30 day terms mean that the pressure is on
us to deliver what we’ve promised from the very
start. You can be assured that the service levels
you get on day 1 will be the same on day 100 and
day 1000 – which is why we have customers who
have been with us for over 20 years. It also means
we don’t need to present you with a shopping list
to force you to spend more money straight away.
