To Whom It May Concern:
Letter of Reference
Re: Rebecca Harrison
This reference letter is provided at the request of Rebecca Harrison, who has asked me
to serve as a reference on her behalf. It is my understanding that Rebecca would like to
be considered for employment by your organization.
I have known Miss Harrison for the past two (2) years as she has taken the following
courses of which I was her professor: (1) Feminist Political Action this course focuses
on women organizing for social change. We begin by reviewing gender, race, class, and
all the other ‘isms’ their interconnections and their impact on the lives of women.(2)
Feminist Community Development assist students in gaining an understanding of
community organizing as a process in building healthy and sustainable communities; as
part of the voluntary structures that nourish society. (3) Feminist Field
Seminar/Placement. The goals of these courses are for the student to gain:
• Knowledge of the principles and values of organizing and methods required to be
an effective community organizer.
• An understanding of the development process of community organization, the
challenges they face, the commitment to ideals and accountability to their
constituents.
• Practice and strengthen their professional skills in the workplace.
As her professor, I have had opportunities to observe her participation and interaction
in various classes, supervised and evaluate her knowledge on a diverse continuum of
subject matter. I would rate Rebecca’s overall performance in these subjects as above
average. As part of her grade she was required to work as part of a student collective
on a Strategic Research Project. The paper was designed to measure the student's
ability to research, to analyze the results of the research, and to write a critical summary
on the subject. Based upon this, I rated her skills as high in the following areas:
communication, analytical and team membership as key to her strengthens. Rebecca
had the opportunity to experiment with investigative reading, interviewing, writing and
research as forms of inquiry, expression, persuasion in becoming social change agents.
Miss Harrison is a conscientious and hardworking student, with a keen craving for new
knowledge; she was very attentive in my classes and engage with passion in her work.
Her knowledge of life provides a rich backdrop for interacting with people who have
been marginalized. Her ability to implement her knowledge to live experiences is
astounding. I fully support her approaches to find employment in her field of study.
