20190321 REALice Canada - Ice Making
1. Save: 79% natural gas* + 10%-12% hydro**
Make Excellent ice
* based on FortisBC large scale pilot 2014 | ** user feedback andToronto Hydro assessment 2016
Presentation
4. We are very pleased with the results of the REALice system thus far. The
users have reported very hard, consistent, and fast ice. The ice also looks very
clear and has a nice sheen to it. Zion Cruz, Fraser Lake, BC
REALice works and making great ice comes from good ice maintenance.
Thereâs nothing else out there that we could put in so easily and save the money
weâre saving. â¨
Fred Kilner, Fuller Lake Arena, Chemainus, BC.â¨
In Williams Lake we have very hard and mineralized water and we have
found that the ice is as good as before the Real Ice installation if not better. We
ďŹood with 57-60 degree F water and have not had any problems at all since the
system was installed. â¨
Garry Breck, Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complexâ¨
The change in the ice is hard to describe -- it just feels denser. â¨
AllenVanVelzen, Sunshine Coast Regional Districtâ¨
Our compressors are running approx. 25% less and the load on the hot water
boilers is down over 50%. Rob Crema, PNEVancouver BCâ¨
Weâre excited! The REALice system is going to save us the community
money and greenhouse gasses.â¨

Professionals about REALice
8. 1. Micro air bubbles in water are pulled into the
IVG's low-pressure zoneâ¨
2. Low pressure zone causes micro air bubbles to
expand and gather into large bubbles. â¨
3. Those large bubbles (air) are lighter than water
and will disappear into the atmosphere
What Happens Inside REALice?
9. ⢠Cold water has approx. 3 times more micro air bubbles
than hot water!
⢠Solid ice canât hold air - if not removed, it forms bubbles
⢠Viscosity is lowered - water flows out faster
Why Remove the Micro Air Bubbles?
10. Viscosity decreased: water ďŹows out faster (3% - 17%)
Heat capacity increased: ice lasts longer, melts slower
Electrical conductivity increased: brine works more effective / less
insulation
Reduces lime scale - calcium bicarbonate (CaHCO3) is
transformed into calcite and preferentially aragonite, which does not
attach to pipes, nozzles or other surfaces â¨
= softens the water
REALice simulates âhot waterâ
No change in surface tension
See whiteboard animation: Battling hard waterâ¨
Effects on the Water
11. Into the atmosphere.
Where do the
micro air bubbles go?
Does REALice remove
dissolved oxygen?
No.
Does REALice filter out
particles? No. Only micro air bubbles.
Yes!
Does REALice help with
hard water?
Key Questions & Answers
Does the brine
temperature needs to be
reset?
Yes! 3F - 5F, otherwise the
water will freeze too fast
