โ€ข Alexandria has a moderate climate (Kรถppen climate
classification: BWh)
โ€ข Alexandriaโ€™s climate is influenced by the
Mediterranean Sea, moderating its temperatures,
causing variable rainy winters and moderately hot
summers that, at times, can be very humid.
โ€ข With annual rainfall between 100 and 300 millimeters
(mm). The rainfall regime is stormy, occurring mostly
during the winter months.
โ€ข The temperature can fall close to 0ยฐC during the
winter and reach over 40ยฐ C in the summer months,
with the annual mean temperature around 24ยฐ C.

PREVAILING WINDS OF ALEXANDRIAโ€ข As shown in the windrose
diagram, the prevailing winds of
Alexandria is like the most of
Egypt , coming from north and
the western north
โ€ข This is essential to be used in the
design to direct the building
faรงade to receive more from the
pleasant air from the northern
/western sides
โ€ข As the weather in Alexandria
follows the Mediterranean
weather that is most likely warm
and humid ,also the temperature
difference is small compared to
other places in Egypt that follows
the desert weather , its necessary
to use the following strategies
while designing a building in
Alexandria
1. To use the natural ventilation
when possible to cool /warm the
interior spaces
2. To maintain the building
envelope tight and weather
proof to preserve the
mechanically conditioned spaces
when needed to drop humidity
or heat in the too cool
conditions

once by design. Without the help
of increasing energy demand of
the building in cooling/heating

operable openings and yet easily
controlled when needed
Produce the design with more free
corridors with no obstacles that
reduce air speed
Preserve the heat /or cooled air by
tighten up the openings with
controllable hinged windows /doors
Study the faรงade carefully and to
insulate the necessary walls to resist
heat gain by the sun
Reduce concrete mass by constructing
roof with light insulated structure
(MARMOX)

trees /self shading/or neighbor

โ€ข The court inside the Building provide fresh air getting into spaces
and allows hot air to escape through the atmosphere
โ€ข Shading the court and creates a positive pressure cooled area that
drives the air into the inner spaces
โ€ข By adding long trees inside court it will give the desired effect and
pleasant feeling to the building users

โ€ข Exterior walls have different insulations according to the
wall location /conditions
โ€ข Windows shading is not included in the calculations due to
software limitations , therefore the calculations presented
are showing improvement without shading . As known
limiting glass exposure to sunlight are crucial even if itโ€™s
not computed
โ€ข Areas of larger window to wall ration (glass house ,etc.)
have separate insulation to limit the effect on the entire
building
โ€ข Roof material is high efficient insulation (proposed
Marmox board or any other light insulated structure
