Performance Appraisal
Performance appraisal system is used in the
organization to measure the employee’
effectiveness and efficiency.
.
It is needed because every employee has
different attitude to handle the work.
Performance appraisal tend to improve the
work performance.
Techniques
There are some techniques for
performance appraisal
1 Alternative ranking method
2-Paired comparison method
3-Forced distributive method
4-Management by objective
5-Narrative forms
1-Alternative ranking method
The performance appraisal method
for employee where assessor selects
the best and worst employees based
on certain trait and ranks them .
Employee name Sales goals Ranks
• Employee 1 98% 1
• Employee 2 97% 2
• Employee 3 95% 3
• Employee 4 93% 4
• Employee 5 89% 5
• Employee 6 85% 6
Employee 7 70% 7
2-Paired comparison method
It is a method of comparing employee
and job with another one on the basis of
skills, time required to perform task and
knowledge .
The paired comparison method only
applicable when jobs are different .
Example
3-Forced distributive method
In this technique supervisor asses all
employees on the basis of some pre
determined parameters and then rank
them into 3 categories like excellent
,good or poor.
Sample
4-Management by objective
• A performance appraisal technique in which
Supervisor tells the employees how much
they should achieve their goals and then after
a specific time supervisor checks the
achievements and goals of the employees.
Method
5-Narrative forms
• Supervisor assess the employees past
performance and required areas of
improvements.
• The supervisor assessment aids help the
employees where his or her performance
good or bad and how to improvement that
performance.
